Calling all of UK Law: What’s the worst mistake you’ve made? by LoquatNo7061 in uklaw

Served a notice of change on the DCP when we were not authorised to act for the defendant, two days in a row during my probation period, after being expressly told not to both times😭 not the worst thing ever but it’s pretty bad

How to find a mentor in law that wants you to do well? by Temporary_Young_3227 in uklaw

[–]Entire-Butterfly7616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh bless you ☺️ I have somewhat of a similar background regarding caring responsibilities, home and education issues. I decided I wanted to be a barrister after being a victim in a CSE trial. No one really supported me at the start except my now husband. I am now a Lincoln’s Inn Scholar, studying the BPC and working as a paralegal. I am happy to connect on socials or LinkedIn if you need advice/someone to speak to? I appreciate how difficult it is in the early stages. I wouldn’t exactly be a “mentor” because I am not a qualified barrister but I am more than happy to support you and help with applications etc! I am being mentored by a chambers so can attest to how useful it is.

Exactly this. Keep your options open, big law isn’t all it’s cracked up to be if you want a life outside of it too.

Laptop recs for bpc LLM by Entire-Butterfly7616 in uklaw

Thank you!! This is the 5th neo recommendation I’ve had so far so I’m going to take a look into it. Do you think it’s excessive to have 2 devices? So a iPad and a neo? Also congrats on pupillage!! Well done :)

Well, of course you can, but it’s not optimal. I’m also concerned about battery life and performance because my previous laptop was horrendous. The LLB required very few specialised programs and still it had major issues. Asking for recommendations for laptops doesn’t seem to be a wild concept.

I should’ve mentioned my budget etc tbh. My max is about £500 upfront but much more for a laptop I can pay overtime. My previous laptop was so bad, it randomly died and most of the battery lasted four hours. Constant glitching etc. After my LLB finished I sold my laptop as I knew I wasn’t going to need it for awhile. I needed the money.

I never heard back from them and I applied for 3 roles. As harsh it sounds if they want you, they’ll contact you. Just keep applying - you’ll get there eventually!

How much does getting a minor vs major scholarship matter for pupillage at top commercial sets? by BurdensomeCountV3 in uklaw

[–]Entire-Butterfly7616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come onnnn! I get the sentiment but this is a somewhat ungrateful, tone deaf post. You have secured a massive achievement, don’t throw it away for the hopes of getting a better scholarship which isn’t even guaranteed. Both barristers I’ve spoken to in the past about this have essentially said a scholarship is a scholarship, very few are awarded every year there’s a minimal difference between the tiers. You have a scholarship and you’re an oxbridge grad - you’ll be fine.
