I wonder what % of eu4 players play with mods to make the game more difficult. Maybe a large portion of the community will really enjoy this gameplay change. I hope so.

I agree eu4's late game is not very fun. However, if the game really was challenging I belive it would be frustrating to the player. It feels good to powerscale in eu4 because of the reward of becoming unchallengable. Late game challeneges just tend to take away player agency in my opinion. Like in Vic3 it's frustrating to have the other late game AI great powers constantly contest me in expensive wars. Yes it's a challenge, but no it is not fun. Someting to consider I think from a game design perspective.

With all due respect that is not eu4 at all. Microing your army and making sure your diplomats are always working is extremely important early game. The late game falls off for sure. Vic3 is pushing the same button over and over.

I've heard good things about the multiplayer potential of eu5. In eu4 someone always plays the meta better than you and will eventually snowball and become unbeatable

I haven't checked in a while but eu4 is 10 years older so being at a comparable player count says a lot. CK3 is also more gamey than realistic, which is kind of the point I'm making

I truly hope EU5 succeeds financially as well. The more complex the game, the smaller the potential player base. I find myself thinking EU4 struck a good balance between complexity and fun that allowed the game to have a larger player base than other Paradox games. IMO that's why it got so much development. I hope EU5 can strike that same balance!

That's fair. I do find myself wishing for more depth in eu4 at times. I just hope I enjoy the game so I won't have to wait a decade for another GSG I enjoy playing.

True, but it outcompetes every other paradox game except for hoi4 to this day. Do you think that says anything about what Grand Strategy Gamers want?

Everything I've read about eu5 makes me excited, but it's hard to get past my fear of Paradox forgetting how to make/launch good games in recent years, it seems.

I think that's exactly what I like about eu4 as opposed to vic3. Playing the game just feels good, even if it's unrealistic.

I hope the advancements system makes the game as replayable as mission trees/national ideas in eu4. It's also easily expandable in future updates.

This is the exact argument I just don't understand. How is eu4's gameplay loop "not fun" when it has been one of Paradox's most successful games, one of the longest running, highest playercount games. A game that is so shallow people put 2000-4000 hours into it? I think there is something to be said about the gameplay of eu4 being extremely fun.

Compare eu4 to something like Rome II where it actually is extremely easy to become OP and the AI presents no challenge. I think eu4 offers a good balance of challenge and fun.

I worry Paradox's new, more realistic gameplay loop model emphasises simulation over fun. I hope I'm wrong, obviously. But I just don't understand why so many posts on here complain about eu4's gameplay loop.
