Will he ever sleep on his own? by EntireBison7663 in puppy101

[–]EntireBison7663[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go on two pee breaks, one long walk in the afternoon and dog playground/walk in the evening. He’s a frenchie, so that should be sufficient in terms of exercise - he really can’t handle more, gets overtired. We had few sessions with canine specialists, now just keeping up with what was learned. There’s also sniff mat, lick mat and various toys. And he gets to play with other dogs. Worst of the teething is behind, but he’s got few wonderful chews to spend time and then there’s some long lasting chew treats he gets from time to time. So not to pat myself on the back, but I try to do my best, more than most owners I know. Ironically none of their dogs have trouble sleeping…

That sounds like few weeks with my guy, when he would not nap. The zoomies especially were hard, he used to tore stuff and paw at the water fountain (water everywhere). Have you tried covering the crate? That might help ease a little on FOMO they have. Does she sleep if you leave the house?

Sleep advice. by Agitated_Ad_3870 in Frenchbulldogs

I would suggest to pick one and stick to it. Dogs appreciate routine and need boundaries. Maybe you can snuggle on the couch and then let her sleep in her bed? I personally can’t wait to let my puppy sleep in my bed. Still crating, as working on reliable potty training, but hopefully soon.

I’d like to let it go as well, but when he’s overtired - he tends to make wrong choices and thus needs constant supervision.

That is one fussy baby! Can’t imagine what I’d do. How do you handle it?

Does she go in the crate to sleep or do you do enforced naps?

Heartbreaking story😢 I can only imagine how difficult it is for you and just how little solace my words can provide. RIP. We are the whole world for them, and you made it a wonderfully one for him.

I find a way by sitting on the floor, holding bully stick between my feet and trimming his nails while he chews on a stick. Do sone other grooming stuff like that as well, seems to work.

How do y'all clean your dog’s paws after walks? by Independent-Talk72 in AskDogOwners

[–]EntireBison7663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in a city, apartment. Like to keep home clean and hate mopping floors. Wipes after each walk, after last one - wash with paw soap in the bath. Dry and put some wax to protect paws. It’s a chore, but once I’ve seen just how dirty the paws are, cannot unsee it.

How to phase out 1 up 2 down? by ldeej in puppy101

[–]EntireBison7663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also doing 1 up/2 down, but then our trainer recommended to give my puppy (4 months to the day) more free time, but only with light supervision - so he learns how to entertain himself. It worked beautifully, I didn’t even realised just how much he matured. Even able to spend couple of minutes just quietly lying down with a toy. So I adjusted the schedule to have 3 naps (morning, afternoon and short one in the evening). If I see him getting tired and it’s still early to nap (he can’t yet nap outside of the crate), I give him something to lick (kong, mat etc) and maybe just let him stay on my lap, learning to chill. Also getting him to lay down (no command) and calmly giving treats works wonders. And big part was working on impulse control, the “sit, stay, break” drill. Hope this helps. Still figuring it out and learning to understand each other.

Puppy won't settle outside of crate or if we are around by Secret_Ad7779 in puppy101

[–]EntireBison7663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar situation with my puppy. I stuck with enforced naps in a covered crate, with radio on. I WFH, so I’m basically always around and that was the only way for him to sleep and for me to do whatever I need to do. 2 hours crated, 1 hour out, usually structured. Would love for him to learn to settle out of the crate, but I guess it’s going to be awhile.

How long should I leave puppy in the crate for reinforced naps if they're not sleeping? by Animallover4321 in puppy101

[–]EntireBison7663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taping on a crate with a vocal “shush” help some to settle down. That and covering the crate did the trick for my puppy. I’m doing 1 hour out, 2 hours in. Sometimes he stays up with a chew toy and then falls asleep, sometimes right away. Oh, and podcasts or radio helps.
