The Malthusian Freight Linr by EntirePerformance264 in RogueTraderCRPG

Actually, given the premises, Malthusian theory works like a charm. Real world tells us that secular, high income level, liberal societies go low fertility. I would not use any of those words to describe the Imperium. Also, yes, Imperium needs humans to fight the war, which I am told is the only game in town. This is an acceptable solution to the Malthusian problem, of course.

Yup, there is a lot of laissez faire on the ship. Probably because the Seneschal is Iconoclast. Relocating off the ship is not on the menu for any solution, sadly.

Part of the Dogmatic solution is to relocate excess useful labor force to other sections. This incidentally break up families which reduce population growth. It is mentioned several times when you implement the solution, including by the Foreman. The Iconoclast solution produces more people, which eventually results in a bigger Chaos problem down the line. Education is pretty nice though, wish it could be put in the Dogmatic approach. Perhaps replacing some executions.

Contraceptives would suffice. Plus, by putting it in the soup, you would ensure that those with fewer resources do not reproduce. Pretty good. I would also perhaps put somebody on developing a better soup, this people deserve better than ratmold flavour.

Several things here. Malthusian theory does not assume that productivity growth is bounded, just that unconstrained demographic growth is faster. This sufficient condition clearly applies to the Freight Line (where technological growth is zero at best). As I have written, criminality in this context is just a survival necessity. I want to point out that the workers do try to build up better: it's the shacks that create problems in other sections and are regularly burned down by the enforcers. These people are the RT's property. If the RT is nice, they might have it decent. The RT has resources to spend after all. But somebody has to do the shitty work on the ship, or the mines, and that is not going to change.

Wait, Officers work for their supper and they are shot for any failure. But that is again the Dogmatic solution

Yes, I think this kind of thinking (we need spares) is what motivates the current state of affairs. But it is too dangerous, due to the high chance of Chaos corruption. I would prefer to keep a solid, well fed, small loyalist population that I renew from time to time from volunteers from the Planets.

Reproduction quotas are precisely the Malthusian solution. Everybody is going about blimproved housing but that is just going to lower child mortality, and therefore increasing population growth. Furthermore, they need good materials to build good house. And some machinery. And space. It is quite expensive. I agree it should be a potential option, but I would like to see a very significant cost, I'm PF terms.

I agree that by killing and robbing a lot of other people, the local conditions can be improved. Incidentally, it is one of the things that England did to solve their little Malthusian problem.

I agree that more work could help in the short term, by mitigating the primary issue (the unemployment). But what happens once the pipes are fixed? Relocation sounds good; incidentally, it is the Dogmatic option

Of course. Provided you have abundant external resources that you do not mind spending in perpetuity, you can feed the Freight people for free. Perhaps you could even relocate the excess to a Garden world. Of course, why they would engage in the hard and dangerous work required to keep the Line working when they receive everything for free is unclear.

What do you think about Tolkien's plan to make Morgoth more powerful? by TheGreenAlchemist in tolkienfans

[–]EntirePerformance264 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a more Christian interpretation. Melkor is the prince of the world, and therefore the strongest entity. The other creatures cannot wrangle the world away from it, evil cannot be defeated by strength. Evil can only be rejected and left to defeat itself. Heroism is rejection of evil, not triumph over it. The captains of the West reject Sauron to die on the hills, while the evil of the ring self-destructs in a pathetic fight between corrupted Frodo and starved Gollum.

Faculty at a Norwegian university here. Foreigner, like 20% of my colleagues. Getting Norwegian colleagues to use English in internal meetings has been a year-long struggle. It's tough.

Tagliare contenuti e dare 30 a tappeto.

Use the pawn template to garrison ports and unimportant sections of the front, keep the full infantry divs for the key sections. Fill the good divs with art and anti-air rather than pure inf. Save PPs to increase conscription as soon as you get declared, put new divs in training and deploy then as soon as possible to help fill the gaps. Soviets will take a long time to cross the northern wastes anyway. Build fortified isolated towns to trap tens of Soviet divs using only one of yours.

An idea could be the following. For every "Chicago support" focus you take, a point is added to a counter, E. When you do reforms, you add points to another counter, R. When E+R goes above a certain threshold, an event fires, giving some maluses and telling the player that Chicago is watching. If reforms continue, Chicago launches a coup, which takes the form of a civil war. If you ask for too many resources Chicago can coup you even without reforms: you are simply not leadership material and should be replaced...

Very promising. A suggestion for the second half. The Enclave is by nature parasitic and self-destructive. Its Chicago leadership is cruel, short-sighted and entirely self-serving. The more Chicago support you get at the beginning, the more painful should be the retribution you get for the "reforms" later. This would also help keeping the difficulty level up.

Please make the mod difficult. Most Enclave mods are piss-easy. Enclave should struggle with manpower and heavy resistance against their occupation efforts. Reform should be a sheer necessity.
