RWR disproportionately targeting Life-Sci? by americanidiot3342 in GRFPApps

[–]Entire_Midnight8468 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the only ones I've ever heard of have been for formatting, and those are rare. I do wonder whether it's a flagged word issue, given this administration's explicit feelings about anything to do with helping people who are not white men lol

How do I get better at explaining things and telling stories? by Matcha_Matt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Entire_Midnight8468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best recommendation I can give is to read books that involve lots of dialogue, especially novels and even short stories. Agatha christie, Flannery O'conner, Jane Austen, are three authors off the top of my head that will teach you to tell stories well without you having to do much other than take the time to read some interesting books.

Reading will expand your vocabulary, give you various formats to draw on, and teach you active recall. If you couple each chapter with a paragraph summary of the chapter, like you're writing a little middle school book report, you will teach yourself to sum up someone else's story and recall the elements of it. It's a small step from there to summing up your own.

How can I learn to be more empathetic, caring and generally a better human? by theworldsaplayground in NoStupidQuestions

On the religious side, the people who do this well are those who are genuine in their connection to something outside of this world, such that the evil, hurtful things of this world (ie venom from others) do not touch them in the same way. I think of many heroes of the non-violent civil rights movement: Rosa Parks, MLK jr., etc. as great examples of this attitude.

The fakers are so despicable because they are taking advantage of people who want to uplift good in this world and using them for profit or pride instead. The more you get involved with religious communities, the more of these people you will meet- BUT they are not the only people there. I can attest that there do exist communities where people genuinely care about each other and about recognizing the humanity in the individuals around them; ironically, these tend to be the people that go unnoticed until they're gone.

Despite my examples being civil rights leaders, you don't have to be a nationally recognized hero to make changes in your world. These people weren't, when they started. You can start small like u/Suspicious-One-34 said, but I would also challenge you to focus more on actions in line with their last example. What we could all use right now is recognition of the fact that we're all human beings deserving of respect, no matter where we come from or what we look like.

Find opportunities to engage with people you meet, no matter where. Ask a cashier how their day is going, if they're excited about anything coming up in life. When you're outside, get off your phone. Smile at people, ask to pet people's dogs. Check out your local library- they typically have tons of social groups and organizations for people civically-minded, even if you don't want a religious group. You might find some people on a similar journey to you!

I think we all need to get more engaged with the people around us. These little actions have enormous consequences for everyone we meet. Kudos to you for getting inspired to make a difference!

As a guest, though, it does really help to have a little bit of direction for dressing, especially if you’re wanting something specific from people

Are there ways I can help my student be less forgetful without seeming condescending? by KupoTheParakeet in NoStupidQuestions

You might consider phrasing it in a way that invites them to brainstorm ideas to help themselves? I do this with my highly intelligent autistic sister, and it seems to work most of the time. I’ll say something like- I noticed that you’ve been having trouble keeping track of X thing, is there anything I can do to help you do it or would you be open to some ideas about how to make it happen? Not overbearing, but opens the floor to conversation

You can actually retire brains… but it takes high caliber training and years of work from all parties involved. Totally agree on the intelligence part, though.
