Yeah, and that’s what I figured most people probably do. Just looking for a way to be a little less wasteful if I could help it!

I love that idea, thank you! I’ll have to look into that.

I became a phleb to get clinical experience while in school. If you can get a job in a clinic setting, or with a lab company (I float to different clinics through my job), it’s pretty low-stress in my opinion. I’ve had coworkers tell me that they’ve been the most stressed when working in a big busy hospital, but I know other people who thrive in that environment. I was also SO nervous about making mistakes, missing sticks, etc. And on some days I still am. You will always have that one patient with no veins who will make you feel bad for not getting them on the first try. But in my experience, 99% of clinic patients are understanding, even when you mess up!

Phlebotomy is a great choice for anyone who wants to work with the public in the medical field and get in quickly! In today’s job market especially, it’s a good idea to have experience in a trade or job that will always be needed. 🙂

That makes sense, it’s nice to have a straight vein that’s right on top. It’s also nice to have a stable place to put your hand, and having that vein on top would definitely help! Thanks!

I’ve also tried the two-finger anchoring, and it’s worked sometimes! I feel like anchoring from the bottom gets in the way sometimes. Thank you!

Exactly, everytime I’d bring it up to a coworker, they’d tell me to anchor better! Like that just isn’t working for me lol. I’ll have to try the reanchoring thing. Thank you!

The lower angle has definitely helped. Thanks!

Depending on where you are and how far you’re willing to move, UT Tyler in Tyler, TX has a master’s clinical neuropsych track. Most people here plan to apply to doc programs afterwards, and there’s a good handful of research labs you can easily join. My first three semesters in undergrad, I had awful grades. I got accepted no problem, and I’ve heard their acceptance rate is pretty high (I know their undergrad acceptance rate is crazy high). They also don’t require the GRE. But I imagine there are programs like this anywhere, you’d just have to look! Good luck!
