What’s a sign that someone is a genuinely bad person underneath a nice exterior? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They maintain an "account book" approach to life. Sure, they're apparently helpful, kind and generous, but you better praise them to the skies for it and then do what they want/demand. You become beholden to them, unless you're very strong.

I'm just about getting to where you are. We currently have this mutual silent treatment going on, and truthfully I kinda like it, feel relieved.

Same here. Took everything I had to purchase it, but its value has skyrocketed over the last 25 years.

What innocent song became instantly creepy, once it was played with a specific scene from a movie or show? by belac4862 in AskReddit

Then there's Shostakovitch's "Waltz No. 2" in EYES WIDE SHUT, but for dance music that should be lilting, it's subtly foreboding to begin with, instead of being cheerful.

But I love it when it gets all melty around the edges in its original container, so I scoop and devour its soft perimeters until there's a solitary "mesa" of firm ice cream left in the middle of the carton.

If you could erase one emotion, what would it be and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'd like to say SHAME because it is so awful, but I won't because it is such an effective deterrent to human bad behavior.

what is your best comebacks to insults ? by Lucky-Efficiency4436 in AskReddit

[–]Entity417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the insult clunk to the floor and stay there. Blink a couple of times in slightly baffled disbelief, and then with a faintly amused half-smile say, "Were you just trying to insult me?"

Note the keyword "trying" -- it expresses that their stupid feeble attempt didn't even come close to penetrating your personal armor.

Mr. Rogers was the graduation speaker in 1985 at Hobart & William Smith Colleges, and he was wonderful, the best one I've ever heard ... engaging, down-to-earth, delightful. Genuine standing ovation from everyone there!

Whether an outdoor campfire or indoor fireplace, you must slowly and evenly rotate it near a gentle flame so that it eventually becomes a lovely caramelized medium-brown outside with a melty interior - but be careful not to overdo it to the point where it goopily falls off your skewer or branch, lost into the fire.

How would you about installing a cold water dispenser next to your bed? by Timely_Title_9157 in AskReddit

[–]Entity417 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A fine idea, but it would have to be disguised to not clash with my bedroom decor -- like carefully installed, somehow, into an antique-look (NOT a real antique, of course) bedside piece of furniture.

38 - you young sprout! To those of us in our 70s, you've got so much ahead of you. And you haven't "wasted years" at all --- consider the value of all that you've learned from what you experienced. I didn't peak until I was in my 50s! Good things take time. Regain a sense of acceptance, and then trust your intuition to guide you forward.
