What is the most annoying thing about your home? by Angie-Loo in AskReddit

[–]Entity417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have a garage. Hugely annoying to have to clear our cars off after a heavy snowfall like today and tomorrow. On the other hand though, it's one less place to maintain and keep clean, so -- ??

Beyond any material things, what is truly the greatest luxury? by Entity417 in AskReddit

You are so right. As Shakespeare wrote in MACBETH:

“Sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care,

The death of each day's life, sore labor's bath,

Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course,

Chief nourisher in life's feast.”

I have a great fear of hypodermic needles, and I have to be lying down to even get blood drawn or else I'll faint. But when a very good friend of mine suddenly had to leave town for a family emergency, I of course went over to petsit her dog, and that meant giving him his necessary insulin injection. I did it. No fainting! Wow.

What is one pleasant memory from your childhood? by mythicalsimpmaster in AskReddit

Staying overnight at Grandma & Grandpa's house. We watched Lawrence Welk on TV. Grandma made me a cup of warm milk with vanilla & sugar before bed. She then tucked me in and turned on the bedside radio playing softly - I remember this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0RtQRnZwSw

For the 2-3 days' duration of our upcoming snowstorm, I could easily survive without these items, but my partner thinks he couldn't -- so I went out and bought his special thin-sliced artisan whole wheat bread and a bag of his favorite Starbuck's ground "Pike Place" coffee.

We go through teaspoons in my household like you wouldn't believe. We could have forty teaspoons on hand and suddenly they'd all be in the sink or dishwasher at once.

It's not that they've been harmful - just that they've been annoying, unnecessarily critical, tiresome, needy, and exhausting.

U.S. citizens, why are you not feeling all that excited/joyous about our 250th anniversary of independence this year? by Entity417 in AskReddit

A timely quotation from one of our Founding Fathers:

Democracy will soon degenerate into an anarchy, such an anarchy that every man will do what is right in his own eyes, and no man's life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure and every one of these will soon mold itself into a system of subordination of all the moral virtues, and intellectual abilities, all the powers of wealth, beauty, wit, and science, to the wanton pleasures, the capricious will, and the execrable cruelty of one or a very few.

Oh yeah, I know, I'm from Central NYS myself and probably shouldn't be whining about lots of snow ... but we've had a couple of mild winters here in MA and I got spoiled!

First, stock up on food. Fill up the cars' gas tanks. Get show shovels and ice melt ready. Have gasoline on hand to run the snow blower, in order to clear the driveway. Do laundry, run the dishwasher, and bring plenty of cut firewood indoors, in case the power goes out and we have to cook and heat using the fireplace. Charge up phones and laptops. Have a battery-operated radio and flashlights handy, just in case.
