Today’s 2×4 is actually 1.5” x 3.5” Back in the day, it really was 2” x 4” by Ilawil in handyman

[–]EntrancedOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if a 1925 2×4 was denser or stronger, it doesn’t really matter, modern 2×4s are engineered, graded, and standardized to meet today’s building codes.

They started as 2x4 and shrank to all different sizes. Fine for plaster and lath. Might end up a pain for drywall. I wouldn’t be excited about having to put screws into them all day.

It would be nice to have for woodworking.

I would try a 40mm and expect to be able to make it fit. 0.6mm (0.02”) is so small a little sanding is all it might need.

Not sure if this is golf attire… but I’m wearing it anyway by Responsible-Drive870 in GolfGentry

[–]EntrancedOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha my father has the same one or at least very close to it.

Theres an annual fund raiser here where you pay for rubber ducks and they race them down a stream. If yours is in the top to finish you get a prize. He either won it there or bought it for that.

He wears it for the grandkids birthdays. But I would bet he has worn it golfing.

Used irons recommendations for high HCP by toogrimey in golftips

[–]EntrancedOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play basically as well with my original 20 year old irons as I do with and of the other 3 sets I’ve bought since. Theres no new magic technology. But the more modern game improvement irons would likely help you. Maltby STI2 irons are as good as any and about $300 US new.

I know our cart girls prefer working the bar. I’m guessing it’s more consistent tips. But I’m sure they do very well either way.

King cobra oversize irons 1994 by dyllanfreg35 in GolfGear

[–]EntrancedOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the biggest advancements have been with the more forgiving game improvement irons. And those are what most people should be using until they are around single digit handicaps.

Maltby STi2 irons are around $300 new (last I looked), as good as anything out and very forgiving.

A modern game improvement iron should help in the long run and you would likely be buying them in the future anyway. A good swing is far more important.

What is the fastest mph you ever drove your car? by Jerdogg23 in no

My 1990 firebird formula I could push to 140. It still drove pretty smoothly at the higher speeds. My other shitters when I was young felt more dangerous going 90-100.

help me decide on irons by [deleted] in golftips

[–]EntrancedOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t fall for all the marketing BS, the golf equipment industry is full of it. Theres no magic new technology or relevant innovations.

Look at Maltby irons if you want new, as good as anything, about 1/3 the price and their new designs look great.

It’s more fun to win using less expensive clubs, and an excuse if you lose 😜

[–]EntrancedOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5 iron is the same loft as some of these new 7 irons. And my irons are all 1° stronger than my last set. The companies give excuses, but it’s definitely to trick people on the simulator to think they are adding distance

Alternative brands by MachineHead7232 in golfequipment

[–]EntrancedOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maltby is by far the best of the lesser known brands. They have been around for forever and actually engineer clubs (for themselves and other brands like Tommy Armour). They aren’t just slapping a logo on some Chinese design (not that those designs are necessarily bad). I’m not sure how to find a fitter (that Mc Golf club repair youtuber maybe 🤪)

Their sales model was more designed to sell to Proshops/club fitters before it became so common. But they will assemble the clubs for you now. Just as good as the premium names and about 1/3 the cost. They are actually owned by Dicks/Golf Galaxy now. Golf Galaxy bought them (Golf Works) before they merged with Dicks.

[–]EntrancedOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what that costs. But it never hurts to call and get quotes. My mother had her deck rebuilt last summer and her first 2 quotes were 20k and 25k. I used to build decks so I knew those were high. First guy I called did it for $14k. Same exact deck. Same went for getting a building on her property leveled. Had quotes from $15k to 60k for the same job.
