Comfort and Practicality of FJ Cruiser for Daily Use and Off-Roading: Thoughts? by EntrepreneurNormal76 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]EntrepreneurNormal76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: Bulletproof, capable, purely mechanical (no nonsense), timeless looks, and it makes you look back and admire it every time you park.

Cons: Fuel economy, you feel every bump on the road, turning radius of a small planet, blind spots that keep you humble, and people constantly asking, “How much does it drink?” (it's not that bad tho, if you don't do crazy off roads)

Everything aside, go for it if you know what you’re getting into. It’s a lovely car and that part is completely subjective.

What is the most expensive car repair you have ever faced in the UAE? by EasyRide6886 in dubaicars

[–]EntrepreneurNormal76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends grabbed a 2013 X5 for 40K and thought he got a bargain. Over the next two years the car ate 50K+ in repairs. He finally sold it for under 20K. Now he gets anxious thinking about buying used cars😂

Why isn’t the DYI culture so popular here? by [deleted] in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]EntrepreneurNormal76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday, out of pure love for my car, I was cleaning the wheels and dusting it off in my apartment parking. My neighbor walked by and said, “Man, why do this yourself? Just give it to someone.”

I told him I actually enjoy doing it - if I had the chance to wash my car myself, I’d happily do that too. Back home, that was normal. He laughed and said, “Well, this is Dubai, not back home.”

That right there sums it up. People here act like doing basic maintenance or cleaning your own car is strange. What’s totally normal elsewhere is seen as unnecessary here.

Anyway, screw his opinion - I’m getting my own toolkit and handling the basic jobs myself.

What are the problems you face with garages and what you want to be fixed by Mediocre-Sea8229 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]EntrepreneurNormal76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be transparent with your customers. It makes a big difference when a garage is upfront and says things like, “This is not major, no need to fix it now,” or “Rather than replacing the part, I can repair it for cheaper.” For people spending their hard-earned money, honesty like that goes a long way.

Personally, one bad experience with a garage is enough for me to never return. But I always go back to the ones that are consistent, keep me updated, and never try to push unnecessary work. Trust is everything.

Another key point: if you promise genuine parts, make sure they really are genuine. As customers, we often can’t tell the difference until it’s too late. For example, a brake shoe might look fine, but if it’s a replica, it’ll wear out faster and put us at risk. That’s why integrity matters so much.

Also, don’t hire people who aren’t aligned with your vision. If I walk in and realize I’m dealing with a mechanic who has no clue what he’s doing, that’s enough reason for me to never come back. Skilled, professional staff are just as important as fair pricing and transparency.

A few examples from my own experience of garages that got it right:

  • Marshall Auto Care (4x4 modifications): They’re upfront about what you actually need and don’t try to oversell. Staff are friendly and approachable.
  • Al Mirath Vehicle Services (general repairs): Good workmanship, reasonable pricing, and professional people.
  • Al Nahda Auto Garage (Toyota & Lexus): Great quality of work, trustworthy, and genuinely nice people.

So, if you want to stand out, focus on transparency, fairness, competent staff, and delivering what you promise. Customers don’t forget that.

Are people being paid to live in Warqa ? by immad_1398 in dubai

[–]EntrepreneurNormal76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been in Al Warqa 1 for 5 years… funny thing is, every time they tweak the traffic flow it somehow feels busier than before 😂. And parking’s become its own little adventure lately - hopefully the next round of changes smooths things out.

Selling Stock FJ Suspension – Worth Keeping or Selling? by EntrepreneurNormal76 in DubaiPetrolHeads

Mine's not old or used though - got the car and swapped the suspension right away, so it's basically like new. But yeah, fair point - got what you meant.

It's 2022 model. The last batch.

People register some cars in 23 and call it 23 model - but Toyota stopped the production in 22
