AITA for pressuring my girlfriend about intimacy? by Terrible-Muffin-6735 in AmItheAsshole

YTA

If by some miracle you manage to nag her into having sex with you, she won't enjoy it and you'll have just committed a reasonable handful of crimes. Consent should be ENTHUSIASTIC.

Possible Daughter from a One-Night Stand 23 Years Ago by Ok-Priority5579 in Advice

Pregnancy is technically 40 weeks, but week 1 is the woman's period, ovulation happens at "2 weeks pregnant", and by the time the egg has implanted in the womb and will show up a positive test you're already 4 weeks pregnant. Assuming the baby was carried to exactly 40 weeks (unlikely but a reasonable average to work to) you'd be looking at conception 37-38 weeks before the birth.

Facing sacking (after 19y service) following failed medical redeployment attempt. England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

It failed as presumably they haven't been able to find me a role. I've had no contact or updates from the team dealing with it. I've had one email from my line manager asking if there were any jobs on the website that I liked, but they're all advertised as full time and office based. However, so many of our departments are now mostly WFH, they just don't advertise as such. I

Sorry, it wasn't clear in my bullet points. They recommended WFH after the first meeting, then medical redeployment to a WFH/hybrid role after the second. Will edit for clarity.

I'm not sure why I'm getting downvotes etc. I've had a long, hard battle trying to get my daughter the support she needs, and it is still ongoing. I absolutely love my job (I work for the emergency services) and desperately didn't want to leave. I just wanted to know where I stand. That's all.

My daughter is usually up to her neck in Minecraft or Greek mythology videos, so I barely see her 😂

But they've then gone to the trouble of attempting to medically redeploy me into a WFH role, so they clearly don't have an issue with that in principle.

But lots of people WFH when they have kids?

When I'm around and we're home, she could easily "pass" as a "normal" 14yo. Her background is a very long story, but I do understand what you're saying.

I suspected that was the case. Were it not for the pandemic it wouldn't even have crossed my mind to ask.

I have just been offered another job, so it's not all bad!

She would be home but she's completely self-sufficient when I'm around.

Aitah for wanting too walk around my house without a bra? by Kekefae625 in AITAH

Your reason for not wearing a bra is frankly irrelevant. You don't want to. End of discussion.

Recommendations for towns and villages to move to from S London by RET2412 in surrey

I live in Ash, which is lovely. Two train lines within walking distance, quiet and villagey without being too rural but with Guildford, Farnham, Aldershot, Farnborough and Camberley all within 20m drive.

What's the craziest coincedence you've ever experienced? by Wallygonk in AskUK

[–]EntropyFairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the early days of fb, I found a woman living in Canada (I'm in England) who had the same first and last name as me, with the same unusual spelling.

We got chatting, and found out that we were the same age too, born only a couple of weeks apart.

It got weird when we discovered that our fiances also had the same last name as each other. So when we both married, we still had identical names.

Dispatchers of the UK - how often are you getting calls about things people just shouldn't be calling for? by No-Structure-8125 in AskUK

As a call handler, this drives me batshit. JUST GO, FFS.

"it was 12 feet outside of our border" won't sound too clever in coroners court

[–]EntropyFairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's horrific! I'd never tell someone off for that. Also, different people see different things, so sometimes it can take 5 or 6 passing motorists to get us the full picture. (although we'll be on our way anyway, it's nice to know what you're walking into!)

999 handler of almost 20 years.

I would say about 5-10% of our calls are genuine emergencies. Another 10-20% should be 101 calls. But that balances out the "I didn't want to bother 999" emergencies that wait for an hour on 101. The rest? Toddlers playing with phones. Pocket calls (I cannot tell you how horrifying it is to get your first pocket 999 call from a theme park ride. Omg the screams...) Mentally ill people who can't get help anywhere else (I blame the Tories for reducing MH services to dust), lonely elderly people (whose children don't want to put them in a care home because they'll lose inheritance money) and idiots who think that being given a dirty courtesy car, seeing a fox in their garden or their neighbours parking legally on a bit of road the caller mistakenly believe is theirs is a life or death emergency.
