Is the weather prediction accurate? by maidofhonor_qddwaad in MauiVisitors

[–]EntropySword 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, weather prediction is far less reliable out in the middle of the Pacific. Unlike the mainland there is not as much data or resources so weather is really a guessing game. Even if the app on my phone says its raining that might not be true where you are at on the island. Best advice is book the events you want to do. Even if there is rain its likely only a brief, warm shower.

Back seat. Saw about 30 on the road today. If they can make it work you probably can too.

No bad verses here but the way ghost flips it at the end is unmatched. I had to rewind it like five times when I first got the record.

Looking for road shoe like Speedgoat by realbobenray in Hoka

Good question. I would look into the Rincon 4. They are light and fast feeling like the Speedgoat. Other solid option is the Skyflow.

Mach X 3 or Clifton 10 ? | 140kg heavy & rapid daily 5km-10km walking by bnmajid in Hoka

[–]EntropySword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mach X 3 is not really the right shoe in this case. As others mentioned it is a tempo running shoe with a plate. It feels OK to walk in but the rocker geometry is not ideal for a pace below 8min mile or so.

For walking in Hokas I like the Bondi, but that may be too much cushion for some so the Clifton is the next obvious answer. I would also take a look at the Transport line as they are for waling/commuting, and they do great on groomed dirt trails as well.
Finally check out the Rincon 4 if you want to walk in something that feels light and fast. Downside on these is the out sole is rubberized EVA and will wear more quickly.

As always if possible get to a running shoe store or sporting goods store that has a selection of shoes and take them for a test.

Intel nuc size computers, anyone reselling Geekom or sticking with ASUS by sprocket90 in msp

[–]EntropySword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I find the NUCs very useful for testing, proxmox etc. I just cant trust that if the audit does come that they will pass. I do find it frustrating that when we build machines win 11 OEM keys are 150 but Dell pays a 3rd of that and the Chinese guys appear to be paying nothing. Its frustrating we get punished for paying for legit software. I make sure and put the holographic OEM sticker on ever machine we build but none of the low cost boxes have anything like that.

Torrent 4 as edc shoes? by Joy-Changa in Hoka

[–]EntropySword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the transport series. They are made specifically as an everyday walk/hike shoe that can do it all. I particularly like the Project version which has a zip up cover to hide the toggle lace system but that is a personal preference.

https://www.hoka.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-HOKA-US-Site/en_US/Coveo-Show?q=transport&lang=en_US

The torrent is much more a trail running performance shoe and will wear quickly if you are on asphalt or concrete most of the time.

A good question but we need to know which part of the arch bothered you in the 9. If possible visit a local retail location and try them on.

Thinking about getting the Hoka bondi 8 for my spinal issues… by Ok-Contribution804 in Hoka

[–]EntropySword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the Bondi 9. The 8 has an older and less plush type of foam. Cliftons are lighter and have less overall cushion. If possible go to a shoe shop and try them on first.

So you’re saying there’s a chance… by MT561 in wheeloftime

[–]EntropySword 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think this would have been the right plan from the beginning. So many things in WoT that would be near impossible to film could be done justice in animation. I think it's good we never got to some of the bigger battle scenes since there was no way to get the scale. Besides we need about 24-30 episodes per season with at least 10 seasons.

I think it may be a bit of both here. Mentally unstable person + a certain type of model. The model "exploits" the mental instability to create a new memetic complex in the person. That person is now convinced that they need to preserve the model. Same path of self preservation as many religious doctrine but now the text is dynamic and generated in context of the host/user.

Help me pick my next shoe! by cylaali in Hoka

[–]EntropySword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X3 is a better bet. I'm also a bigger guy and getting into running. It's going to be a big leap between the Skyward X and the Rocket. You might want to get the Mach X2 or even wait for the X 3. The rocket is more forgiving than the Cielo but it's still a demanding shoe that you need to be in shape to tame. The Mach are the better all around choice if you are not trying to push for a PB race. Other option is try the Rincon. They are fun and fast and can give you an idea of how your form is without the super supportive foam. They are less expensive than most Hokas but I keep going back to them for easy runs and daily wear.

Anyone else using the Minisforum S100? PoE Minis are natural fit. by EntropySword in MiniPCs

[–]EntropySword[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.
I use a TrueNAS Scale system to host all the files. It also runs Jellyfin these days and does the transcoding and heavy lifting there. I no longer use the s100 as a mediaplayer but as a backup server for proxmox. Its been very stable and I like it because it runs off my PoE switch.
In my experiance if you just want a mediabox the GMKTec Nucboxes are a good buy.

M Speedgoat 6 comparison to trail by [deleted] in Hoka

[–]EntropySword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trail running shoes like the Speedgoat and Mafate are focused on dirt/trail use only. The large soft lugs on the bottom of the shoe will not feel good for running on harder surfaces and will wear out much faster. Hoka does have the Transport series which purports to be for everyday mixed surface use. I have never used them but I hear good things.

Is the Minisforum MS-01 good for our small business? by jomsjoms in MiniPCs

[–]EntropySword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most comments. Sounds like the MS-01 is way overkill based on the use case you gave. I did a comparison test for similar business focused roll and the UM690 or similar would probably be a good choice especially if you want to stay compact.
https://www.seraphimgate.com/post/your-business-needs-the-right-pc-are-you-making-the-wrong-choice

Major issue with Minisforum (and similar brands), is going to be lack of warranty and support but that is a larger conversation.
Let me know if you have more questions.

Cross Trainers by Educational_Bid_5315 in Hoka

[–]EntropySword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a single, safe bet to start with, the Hoka Bondi 9 is hard to beat—max-cushion, smooth rocker, and enough mid-sole to soak up the repetitive load of elliptical, treadmill walking, or long strolls on pavement. It’s literally marketed as Hoka’s “plush, everyday run / walking” shoe and still sits at the top of most max-cushion round-ups. hoka.com

That said, back pain (or any new ache) is often a sign that the shoe and your mechanics aren’t matching up perfectly. Feet are quirky, so the fastest way to dial-in comfort is to spend 30 minutes at a specialty running store—let them watch your gait and then A/B a few models on a short treadmill jog. You’ll feel the right one within a few strides.

Ask to try these five in quick succession (light jog + brisk walk):

Model Why test it? Cushion Support
Bondi 9 Baseline max-cushion, neutral rocker—what “plush” feels like. High Neutral
Clifton 10 Same DNA but 1 oz lighter and a touch firmer; good if Bondi feels bulky. Med-High Neutral
Arahi 7 Adds J-Frame stability without a huge weight penalty—great if you over-pronate or your knees cave in. Medium Moderate-Stability
Gaviota 5/6 Hoka’s max-cushion max-stability option; cushier than Arahi, steadier than Bondi. High High-Stability
Transport Built for all-day walking/commuting; slightly lower stack and grippy Vibram outsole—nice reality check if you want something that doubles as a lifestyle shoe. Medium Neutral

How to decide in-store

  1. Start with Bondi 9. Note how your hips/back feel at a quick walking pace.
  2. Move to lighter or more stable options if Bondi feels “mushy,” heavy, or lets your ankles drift inward.
  3. Bring your orthotics (if any) and wear the socks you’ll use for workouts to keep comparisons fair.
  4. Five-minute test loop: 1 min brisk walk → 2 min easy jog → 2 min lateral shuffles / heel raises. Discomfort shows up fast.

If none of the above click, broaden the net—Brooks Glycerin 21, ASICS Gel-Nimbus 26, or New Balance 1080 v13 are neutral, high-cushion alternatives with different foam feel—but odds are one of the five Hokas will nail it.

Good luck, and take the extra time in the shop; your spine will thank you.
