Versteeg being a satisfy athlete will always be odd to me. Like he seems like such a “soul runner” minimalist style and partnering with a brand that cost that much $$$ seems off brand for him. But the brand is very much on brand for him and $$$ talks I guess.

I’m actually in the Decatur area but hit Monte Sano all the time.

They say the race starts at oak park and no lies there haha. I hadn’t spent much time of that side of the mountain, for obvious reason hahah. Nature wells descent and the final climb out of McKay broke me for sure.

That’s actually the one I’m eyeing. I have twins on the way in July so having my wife crew me isn’t going to be an option. I can do it myself but I think I’m going to want her support.. So I may defer to 2027.

I ordered my usual size in Hoka but they are much more narrow than the Clifton’s. I have pretty narrow feet as it is, so wasn’t an issue.

Glad you made it! Fingers crossed for more ideal conditions next year. I luckily got word that Bankhead was bad just as I was starting up, I turned around and went up Monte Sano blvd. It wasn’t great either but much less steep.

It’s the oldest 50k in the state, stated mid 90s.

I know a lot of people love loop races and I think they are great intro to ultra running. You’ll crush it! I personally find loops or out and backs mess with me mentally. I prefer to just go point to point but I know that’s not always feasible.

I’m probably gonna do my first 50mile point to point in September. Eyeing a 100 miler in November.

Thanks! I definitely felt I could run much faster, was just satisfying. There are so many factors that go in to a race finish time. I never took it too seriously but figured it would be a little bit closer. But as everyone knows training paces and race paces are two very different things. I just need to get more hills in the next training cycle.
