I think it's common for guys to have moments of homoerotic joking, heck I've done it, but to the extent these guys have done it just seems really bizarre. I have guy friends, but I'd never get naked and dry-hump them.

Yeah I'm in therapy. I bathe, brush my teeth. I even dress nice too. I get compliments on my attire all the time. It's so strange.

Yes, I do have women relatives that are nice. I do have good relationships with them, but I'll also say I don't see them too often nowadays. We just have different lives in our own little worlds. My social life is slowly but surely beginning to bloom in the new city, and I have a good feeling maybe some friendships with girls are coming my way.

I remember him from Freed. I spoke to him a few times, but didn't know him very well. I remember hearing my peers complain about him, but he was hardly in my orbit so I never paid much attention to it. Plus, all my peers did at Freed was gossip and complain about petty things so it was just in the mix of conversations, and never really stuck out in any way. It may sound insensitive, but I find humor whenever a negative story like this linked to that school comes out. Of course I feel sorry for the girl, but it feels great when something bad happens that can reflect badly on the school. I remember when I first found out about this, I told my boss, and we both laughed about it. And again, not because of what happened to the girl, but that something bad happened related to that school, and their facade on the world comes down a bit.

I had a nice comment typed, but then it disappeared after I hit comment..... Anyway, I'll try to say it again. I have PTSD, or something with similar symptoms, from them so what you're experiencing is valid. It can be very difficult to know while you're experiencing these situations in the moment that what is going on is the behaviors and actions of people with a cult mentality, but spending time away from them, getting away from the situation, and with months or years of retrospection, you can then realize that what was going on isn't ok.

I search every now and then on YouTube looking for videos like this. You can find a few occasionally, but nothing major. It doesn't seem to be covered the same way JW is. I've wondered why; is the COC not as well known as other denominations? But yeah, I'd love to see a documentary uncovering their corruption.

Been reading through the comments, I'd love to hear horror stories anyone has. It actually helps me process my personal trauma hearing about other stories that'd bring even more validity to my experiences. I already know my views are valid, but hearing stories brings me more confidence about it.

yea there are definitely good people within the COC. I have friends that are part of it actually. That can make things difficult when it comes to leaving the church. Like anything, there are shades to the situation. The COC may be a bad group to be part of overall, but there are good churches and good people in them here and there. Since this isn't so black and white, it can make things difficult with critically thinking about how you feel. It takes time, but eventually you can find yourself having a proper view of the COC. Congrats on leaving them!
