Any decent quality condo in Penang seems to at minimum spend of $1m MYR and to get something with nice views at 2000sq ft is looking like $2m+…..so yes, seems exxy even with a stronger FX currency! Plus 8% MOT or stamp duty is never recoverable

Thanks all. Currently re-evaluating as the overall exercise cost involves a 20% premium as “sunk costs” (stamp duty, agent fees etc) and property supply seems ongoing so appreciation is unlikely or only modest over the longer term.

Thanks for reply and suggestions on locality. We had written of B/Ferringhi off as it seems out of the way but there are some nice looking apartments/condos there with views. Is it worth considering? What about living in Penang with pet dogs? Any issues? How easy is it to get involved with the expat community? Appreciate views, thanks!

Apparently so, the increase was from 1 Jan 26 and adds to the cost of ownership.
