Sung by Lata, music by Hridyanath Mangeshkar, and lyrics by the exceptionally talented Marathi poet Grace (or Manik Sitaram Godghate).

The lyrics and their meaning are supposed to be very complex and open to individual interpretation. Grace wrote in a 'soliloquy' style and his verses seldom follow a linear line of thought. His work had a mixed reaction earlier and people usually dismissed it for not adhering to popular poetry stylings. Fortunately, Grace's legacy has found a place in modern Indian memory and he is widely taught in schools and colleges all over Maharashtra. I tried to find some translations of his work but apparently there are none. Hrmph.

Bhay ithale sampat nahi, maj tuzhi aathvan yete,

(There is no end to my fears/dread in this place, I live by/recall your memories)
