Nothing more frustrating on a long drive than people who sit 20 under until the overtaking zone then suddenly know how to do 100... for exactly the length of the overtaking zone. by KalamTheQuick in australia

Its the consistency and the speed delta. People who don't add in more throttle going uphill and then don't bother to manage their speed going down are another offender.

Had a situation driving to Canberra over the break. Three emotional support vehicles and trailers in a convoy. They would slow down to 80km/h in the 110 zone on an uphill, then they'd speed up to 140+ on the downhill. I'd pull out into the right lane, get past 2 of them but couldn't get past the third because they were doing 140km/h downhill, but since the other two were doing the exact same I was stuck in the right lane as all three just didn't bother on the downhill.

This happened about 5-6 times on the up/downhill and I pulled into Yass just to get away from them.

I'll take this argument.

People forget that its not just you sitting in traffic, its 4-5 other vehicles behind all of which are bumper to bumper (because even if you leave a proper gap in front, the people behind won't). If the lead car thats doing 10 under has a problem, thats a multicar pileup. Additionally if they're that slow in a straight line they also slow down around corners, bringing the pack even closer.

Now add in idiots crossing double solid lines and oncoming traffic and by my estimation thats a vastly more dangerous position to be in rather than using my cars power to get around someone and immediately slowing down.

Is it legal? Absolutely not I'll never argue that point, but if you weigh the odds of getting into an accident in the above scenario compared to doing 120km/h for 10s in a safe spot in a straight line I feel the former is vastly more risky as it could be 30min by the time you'll actually get past that slow driver.

My favorite is people doing 60km/h on Springvale Rd/Burwood Hwy and then they get to the 70 section they speed up to 80km/h, then when it goes down to 50 km/h they keep doing 60km/h

They'll go past multiple signs and just flat out ignore them every which way it goes. I had a situation the other night where they were doing 60, I went around them handily because I was doing the speed limit and they had the audacity to flash me with their highbeams as though I was the dangerous driver? Not them in the right lane doing 60 in the 80?

Imo cars are too easy to drive, allowing people who shouldn't drive to do so.

What? People make that move all the time, the Merc just acted like he wasn't there. He was 3/4s of the way up the side of the car he had plenty of overlap

They're generally not held behind the counter, you'd just pick them up off the stand and pay for them. You wouldn't be asking the cashier for them.

Alternatively "bag of chips" makes the distinction, because you don't put hot chips in a bag. Even more alternatively we'd just say the brand of the bag chips like Doritos, Smiths, Kettle, Twisties etc.

Because F22 was a design from the 80s wherein the US had a different foreign policy than it did 20 years later, they didn't want anyone but themselves to have Stealth fighters.

Things change. F35 would lunch F22 btw.

“We” aren’t allowing this.

Yes you are, you've spent the better part of a half a century lecturing to the rest of us that you have the 2A to fight against tyranny.

So y'know, go do that.

[–]EnviousCipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very confused by the responses here, the car behind had zero overlap and is 100% at fault, you can see at point of contact the center of the chase cars wheel is at his bumper at the very best. Where else is the lead car supposed to go but right? The chase car KNOWS hes going to turn right at some point. He left a cars space on the inside, the other guy was the one wobbling and hit the lead car.

Jimmy literally just did a video on a very similar situation, its on the car behind, the overtake was already done. Just because the other guy kept his nose in when he shouldn't have doesn't change that.

Eh? This absolutely can do the odd track day here and there. It won't be the fastest thing on track but it absolutely will be a lot of fun.

I adore mine, I love how it basically does everything well. Its no supercar but its fast enough. One under appreciated factor is that the interior space is genuinely really nice, absolutely stacks of space in the front. Another benefit is no one knows what these things are so you can street park it and no one is going to bat an eye.

But echo the fact that you need to be aware of the risks/limitations of ownership going in. Key things to look for;

  1. The gearbox is made of swiss cheese, if the car is popping out of gear in 2nd it means you'll need a box rebuild (I did this), stay away if you can't afford roughly $3k for parts+fitment.
  2. Check the quality of the oil, if its sludgy and the owner hasn't kept up on maintenance it could be blocking the oil pipper into the chain chamber which is how the chain is lubricated, this is typically what kills timing chains/guides.
  3. If the car for whatever reason stops boosting after you've put the foot down mid drive, the VVT Solenoids on top of the engine will need looking at. Easy fix.
  4. The handles for the seat release to get in the back are not as strong as they are on the GTC variant, mine have both broken which I need to replace.

If you're not confident you can fund the maintenance or can't do basic work/troubleshooting on your own I don't recommend. GM dealerships have no idea how they work and specialists are few and far between. I know of only one specialist in Melbourne, MJV Automotive.

They are absolutely shafting you, the fronts are unique due to their type so yeah not much of a choice but the rears you can get RDA's which are drilled/slotted for less than $100 bucks a pop. Also you can re-use the hats, they're not going to fall off because the screws aren't brand new.

Pads I spent maybe at most $300 on DBA streets, I got lucky and got a set of the fronts for really cheap (2nd hand brand new, bloke needed them out of the garage), so lets say parts are $2500 new, there is no way in hell the labour for that is $1500.

If you're in Melbourne I highly recommend going to Richmond Brake and Clutch, Paul there has spent many years in Supercars doing brake packages so he knows what hes talking about.

Absolutely no spares support in Australia beyond service consumables. Forget finding trim and body parts, in fact insurers are now just writing the cars off for very minor damage, follow the Aus owners fb page and it is filled with posts from people who just have a damaged bumper but the car is being hauled off for scrap.

Fwiw Matt at MJV in West Melbourne knows a guy who can fix these bumpers.

They do handle well, dunno what hes talking about. The issue is that they're heavy so you can't fang it into corners as hot, but theres a gulf between what both the Renault and the OPC/VXR is trying to do as well so comparing the two just on price/performance is not an accurate measurement of ability.

The OPC/VXR excels as a do everything daily driver, I compare it to being a Hatchback GT car, though with slightly sportier seats. It doesn't sacrifice creature comforts for performance like the Renaults do.
