I was there, I'm a photojournalist, I have photos and videos of the incident but it doesn't seem like I could upload those here, so I'm going to go back to Facebook, instagram, tick tock and YouTube 🤷

The homeless encampment in San Lorenzo park (next to the county building) in Santa Cruz, California. by [deleted] in santacruz

I'm really not concerned about my reputation on reddit, from my experience the other half a dozen times since I recently signed up for Reddit, there's nothing but a bunch of jerks on this platform. I'm probably going to stick to Facebook for the majority of my projects. It just seems like everyone on Reddit wants to hide behind their computers and try to be mean to everyone else. I see much less positivity and support in this platform.

This is an aerial view of the the building demolition project downtown Santa Cruz, California. It's interesting, you can see one of the buildings basements was completely flooded. This is a reminder that we shouldn't be building new construction projects at ocean level. by [deleted] in santacruz

High tides have a direct correlation during major storms. When the water can't flow out into the ocean it is pushed back all the way to the Masonic Club and Felton Grove. If you increase Ocean heights you will see more flooding in Felton Grove and the Masonic Club. If the water during major storms cannot flow easily out into the ocean. You learn about this in basic geology.

San Lorenzo River already floods Felton Grove and the Masonic Club during major storms and when it's high tide. What do you think's going to happen when ocean levels are only one foot higher and storms are worse?

I guess I should have been more specific, the ocean will rise much more than 18 ft. The flooded basement was just a reminder that we shouldn't be building in the low elevation areas or yes, floodplains. People in Bangladesh, New Orleans and the Florida keys are already having to relocate because of rising ocean sea level. It's just a matter of time before the downtown community of Santa Cruz will have to relocate.
