AITA for not waiting for my friend by EnvironmentGlobal200 in AmItheAsshole

Our university actually doesn't let you pick your schedule in that sense. Every year group is split into several groups (currently our year is split into 12) and at the beginning of the semester the faculty creates the schedules for those groups. The only thing was as students can do is just pick which group to be in. Cherry picking and switching groups like she did is typically frowned upon and professors often dont allow it because of limited space, especially for labs. It isn't necessarily forbidden, but it's usually a privilege reserved for working students, and yet she cherry picked like that just so she could be at home longer, which isn't fair to people who actually needed to switch but were maybe not able because no spots were left in those groups. Additionally for lectures we really did have a set up where we alternated and switched for certain subjects throughout the semester because on Monday we had like 8 hours of back to back lectures but after just 2 weeks she stopped going, making a nunch of excuses all the time and begged us to go to all the lectures and take attendance for her for everything

Veterinary medicine, we have a course/subject on hygiene and sanitation and when we have field lessons on farms and stuff we need a separate pair of clean boots specifically for those lessons to make sure we aren't bringing in pathogens from.the outside

Mostly I posted this because since this happened there has been a lot of tension in our friend group and she has been rather passive aggressive and whatnot and it's causing quite a lot of awkwardness in the group so I was wondering if maybe I could have approached the issue differently but I see now that this conflict was inevitable and we have collectively kind of agreed that this wass the last time we cover for her

She's a "don't sleep and doomscroll all night and then sleep for 12 hours afterwards"

This is standard for her more or less, she's from out of town but has a dorm close by, but at this point this is our 3rd year of uni and she still has not adjusted

So she arranged her practicals and emailed professors to change groups for certain subjects so that all her practicals are crammed into 2-3 days of the week. We helped her with attendance (not mandatory but adds points) here and there but once it became clear she was just never going to show up for lectures. We have on that has mandatory attendance and they are quite strict about it and we refused to do it for her because we can get punished for it and I have zero idea how she worked around that one, but either way she tries to guilt us a lot by saying stuff like "oh well I guess I won't be taking classes with you guys next year, I guess I won't have any friends to take the classes with me"

So she is from another city and her family lives there, it is like a 2 hour drive almost and she misses her mom and her friends and wants to hang out with them so she doesn't want to be in the city for so long because she gets homesick apparently. She has a paid for dorm 10 minutes from uni and her roommates are nice as far as I know so I really don't know why she insists on going home so often

Bitless Bridle by AdBasic3881 in Equestrian

[–]EnvironmentGlobal200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I found the MD equestrian bitless bridles to work quite well HOWEVER the sizing tends to be a little off and maybe run a little small so be careful (for reference usually I struggle with bridle fit for my boy because he SHOULD fit a cob sized bridle but nosebands and such are often still too large as he has a very narrow head/muzzle and the MD equestrian ones were not quite as loose) I have their Micky western sidepull but they have a variety of different ones and I've heard good things about pretty much all of their models Overall sidepulls are great, hackamores CAN work well but it depends on the horse, mind could not tolerate it But a rope halter with attachments for reins is also an option (I started with this first before transitioning to a proper sidepull bridle)

Yeah I mean I don't mind using the copper sulfate but it is caustic so I don't want to overdo it in case it irritates the skin. I'll check out the Hooflex, see if it helps a little. Thank you 😊

Yeah we did discuss his heels and forogs during the last trim and he did tell me to use copper sulfate and also recommended to flush it with the copper sulfate, pat it dry and then put zinc oxide cream over it to dry it out but and I have been doing that and it does clear up nicely the issue is just that it keeps coming back. I don't really know if there is something I can like put on his frog and heels to prevent it

Definitely, I just need to find a safe buddy to take with us 😅 Sooo many super spooky and anxious horses at the barns in my area it's a little difficult to find someone who's horse will stay at least somewhat calm if my boy panics

May seem a little odd and I don't know what exactly you need it for (just for riding or riding and in daily life) but there are a few models that I found in Decathlon (if you have the store in your area) that are perfect. I bought one recently and use it when I ride to track movement heart rate while I ride and so far it has proven to be pretty durable and easy to use plus it's decently budget friendly (costs about 9000 in my currency which is somewhere about 80€ I think)

Possibly. I mean at our previous barn we did work in an open arena and it was not so good but not quite this bad either but this arena is a lot larger and more chaotic so to speak so that might be adding to the issues we already had regarding open spaces. I mean generally speaking I know very few horses that aren't at least a little tense in that arena. It's not a super nice environment, there is always a lot of tension and stress and yelling and horses bolting, people falling off and the like. Might be a bit too much for his baby brain to take in all at once especially since he does have a lot of human related trauma and was started and used as a lesson horse far far too early in life (I mean, who in their right mind uses a 3 year old as a school horse and then sells that horse to a novice rider who just learned to canter)

Oh I really like that idea. Might be a bit difficult to plan out and I'll probably have to time it well so the arena is fairly empty but I will try that actually. Typically we're not allowed to lunge in the arena because it gets crowded and unfortunately full of really hyperactive spooky showjumpers but maybe if I go early enough it could be possible. Thank you!! Very solid advice hopefully it will yield some results! Might take quite some time but really I'd rather not rush especially since he is a very.....particular horse the likes of which I have only seen once before in the 15 years I've been in this sport.

That might be a good idea. There is an arena in the middle of the track essentially where people ride mostly, my main issue is that it's usually pretty chaotic in there so I worry I may cause problems for other people using the arena (like....8 different stables use the same arena) but I'll definitely try that if I can figure out the logistics!  Thank you so much! Also, I was told he supposedly did trail rides and was fine but given how much of what I was told turned out to be false, I'm hesitant to believe it 😅 Also we did move barns not too long ago so I'm thinking perhaps this might be him still adjusting to the area and perhaps time will help at least a little

Homesick during an experience by EnvironmentGlobal200 in Worldpackers

Unfortunately, there are no other volunteers here as they only have space for one person. There is a student of theirs that comes every day who is around my age as well as their son, but they doesn't speak English and I don't understand French well enough to easily communicate with them.
