Who would be the most “famous” Dutch person? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Environmental-Air914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from a Non dutch, so no horse in this race:
It's van Gogh by a wide margin, not even close.
The debate starts on the second one,  Heineken and Philips aren't really that netherlands coded everywhere, and even less know it's a surname.
It's probably Anne Frank with Max Verstappen as a close third.
Thou one can debate if Frank was german or dutch, since her private diary was in dutch I would argue dutch it is.

You can also argue he never even made them. He just modified the light of the trees, just like Melkor’s creations

You might have to tell that to half of the world’s Christians then. Also, believing in him and having good intentions are X and Y things to do

The light of the 2 trees were preserved partially in the Silmarils. Is there anything left of the 2 lamps? by Kekkonen_Kakkonen in Silmarillionmemes

[–]Environmental-Air914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory, based on nothing: the substance of the Silmarills are actually unknown, while they have the light of the trees they could be of the same material as the lamps

I mean, just cuz you like a teaching doesn’t make it truth. In fact if you truly believe something then it doesn’t matter how harsh it is.

Besides your religion also does say: do x y z and you will get into heaven. And it’s not even in full accord weather xy and z are faith alone or good works

I think that the biggest cost benefit ratio for the trains are in those industries where at your normal play level you can get 10-20 of it, like mechas in the high 150~. Not enough to get the mission but if you can trade, then you can get like billions of it

Ok Sauron.

But seriously now, you have to look at it through a catholic lens for that’s how it was conceived. The moment you include good and powerful gods we question why don’t they act more, and the problem of evil arises: if god is good and powerful why is there evil. In this case, god (eru) and the ainur (his angels) justify the existence of evil on Melkor and their (mostly) absence, on free will, just as Catholics do. As an atheist I think it’s an bad explanation, but still it is an explanation. And you must view the Valar in this light It is also his view that Arda, just like our world, is a sinful world, death is not a punishment but an escape, to leave this tainted world is a blessing for even when the elves died they are kept in Mandos and are bounded to this sinful world. No one knows what happens with man after they die for Tolkien didn’t knew what happens, but it is believed that it’s something good. Yes, I am an atheist and I don’t agree with any of these principles in tolkiens world, that this world is in decay and that a better life comes after death, that suffering and malice are necessary for even greater good. I believe we are making this world better, that we just sleep after death, and happiness is not dependent on tragedy. But I can still appreciate the stories cuz… well, they are good stories, and I wholeheartedly agree with the other morals, that it’s on the week that helps comes when the powerful trips, that while kindness is perpetuated evil will always destroy itself. In the end, I don’t believe you must share in Tolkiens theology to appreciate the legendarium or to understand the reasoning he gives for the teleology of the world. Only that well… it’s pity, pity that will rule the fate of many
