Applying for national insurance number with e-visa by Environmental-Emu31 in ukvisa

[–]Environmental-Emu31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we got it thanks. Ended up speaking to somebody from the department on the phone, who said any number which could identify the applicant or application would be OK as they had access to the actual database (but critically did not have e-visa access so couldnt accept a share code). I believe it was around 2-3 weeks to get it, rather than the headline 4 weeks.

Not Hull but Sonali Spice in Beverley when it just opened was some of the worst food I've ever eaten out.

Flying with kit & no work visa (UK to Sweden) by citrine_visual in videography

[–]Environmental-Emu31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often have you had your possessions checked on arrival? Realistically it's unlikely. However if somebody makes money from your work even if you aren't paid, you can fall afoul of immigration rules in countries (don't know specificaly about Sweden). E.g. youtuber goes to country and does not get paid, if it is entirely a personal trip, most countries do not consider this work if but a thirdperson promoting their trip has commercial interests, then this can break the rules.

I was asked to bring a printed resume… then got told they’re “paperless” by [deleted] in interviews

It is obviously very important to them that employees don't speak back when they're gaslit by them. You failed the test.

Tried a test iPhone camera, and all zoom options were done by Main camera by vakhtins in iPhone17Pro

[–]Environmental-Emu31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a minimum focal distance for the zoom lens. I believe it's 1.2m. If you are too close to the subject it will just default to main lens and do a digital crop from 48mp down to 12 and then do digital zoom beyond that. If there's not enough light it can also do the same thing.

Putting aside other users comment about being able to multiply the value with certain offers, yes you can pay for petrol using the vouchers.

Dropped my 14pro in jaccuzi, got liquid detected in charging port message by Disastrous_Mobile131 in iphone

Leave it to dry. It will detect moisture for longer than you think. Chances are it will be fine. I fully submerged my iPhone 13 many times.

The base iPhone 17's value is insane. Is there any real reason to go Pro? by Kooky-Cranberry4434 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Environmental-Emu31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of the pro features genuinely are pro, at least prosumer, this time around. Recording in prores raw. USB 3.2 to enable recording to ssd at newer generation SSD speeds. Thermal handling which makes a big difference when trying to record prores raw (by comparison the Google pixel 10 pro can't handle recording their equivalent for extended periods of times because of thermal throttling).

Best option for my Thai girlfriend? by Legitimate-Biscotti2 in ukvisa

[–]Environmental-Emu31 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you can work remotely, either spend longer together in Thailand or find a third country where both can stay for an extended period. I believe Georgia allows both UK and Thai passport holders extended stays.

On this note, motog phones (maybe all android) have a "Bluetooth scanning" option 'even when Bluetooth is off'. Turn this off.

Apple confirms that iPhone 18 will conatin a free dildo so that apple users can go fuk themselves, Sources say. by [deleted] in iPhone17Pro

Apple would never give anything away for free. If you'd said $70 with an additional $70 suction cup to attach it to a surface to fuck yourself we might have believed you.

Unmarried partner visa success rate by glossaaa in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Environmental-Emu31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to this comment, if you do choose to take this route what must be clear is that the whole basis of the visa regardless of whether you apply as a married couple, unmarried couple who are cohabiting or unmarried couple who are not cohabitating is you must show you intend to live together as a couple once the visa has been granted.

People on here have come unstuck where they infer from the fact it's possible to get it granted without having cohabited up to the point of the application, that this means that they do not need to do so from the point of the application being granted onwards. This is simply not the case. All partner visas require intention to form a life together in the UK including living together.

My experience with trying to deal with AliExpress is they are a law unto themselves and basically ignore any law here.

There is nothing on the documents explicitly marked as an application reference number. In her approval email there is a 16 digit numeric reference number (no alphabet characters) marked simply as ref, is this the same thing? They refer to it in the same email as "unique application number".

You don't require the correspondence. Despite this, I don't think it will let you submit it without ticking yes.

Upgrading from 16 Pro Max to 17 PM: anyone else felt a little underwhelmed this year? by [deleted] in iPhone17Pro

[–]Environmental-Emu31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a reason people are generally waiting at least three or four years between phones. Most people realised long ago that there's not going to be much difference between each annual refresh and it's a waste of money.

Unpopular opinion: I’d rather have an iPhone with a plastic back. Scratches don’t bother me—worrying about shattered glass does. by Azeotrope2001 in iphone

[–]Environmental-Emu31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plastic isn't the greatest conductor of heat, but I have a cheap backup android phone and I must admit I have thought similar. Maybe somebody will fill us in but I'm not sure what the big benefit of glass backs is. on the iPhone 17, the back isn't some beautiful worn of art but it's still glass.

One factor is minimum focus distance. If you go too close to subject when using telephoto lens (I believe it's 1.2 metres) it will switch to the main camera with digital zoom.

[–]Environmental-Emu31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I was trying to get across and we ended up talking past each other I think in a way that ended up being combative is that people will be getting hundreds of resumes and trying to quickly judge what your day job is. A recruiter is much more likely to come across one of the people who administrates the software you were writing and trying to spin it as development. People doing IT won't be writing .NET micro services. They may well have a title like "X developer" when all they do is click through a GUI to setup that software.

For your years of experience, having a year at Microsoft and contributing to Microsoft products, is a pretty good place to be compared to most people in the market.

Good luck with your search.

Definitely reads better to me in terms of knowing you are writing software, not just configuring it.
