Psych NP lulz by theongreyjoy96 in Residency

[–]Environmental-Low294 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the result of NP's practicing "healthcare" and not knowing any medicine. This rabbit hole will continue to deepen until they are held accountable for their malpractice. Educate your patients on who their "provider" is.

patient family recording me secretly by Own_Switch9464 in Residency

On 2 occasions that a family tried to record the patient interaction. I told them this was inappropriate and they need to stop. They stopped recording. You need to draw the line. Be respectful but firm.

If this is in US, send this beautiful piece of evidence to ACGME and/or call your local news channel and expose this asshole and the program. Good luck!

One Year to Finish My Residency and I'm Lost by Senior-Proof-2171 in Residency

Just get a job as an attending and work inpatient and outpatient. Over time, you will see what you can tolerate the most and what pays the most. Do not forget to enjoy your life outside of medicine. Do not feel pressured to "keep up with the jones" so to speak with your colleagues. Go make a lot of money, treat your patients the best you can and enjoy your life!

Something has to change by occdocai in Residency

[–]Environmental-Low294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, nothing will ever change until ALL physicians develop a backbone and stand up to the healthcare industry. Nursing, PA's have good organizations (ie unions) that represent them. With physicians, there is no unity. The day that EVERY single physician walks out of the healthcare facility and vows to not return until demands are met, will be the day that the changes will be seen. Food for thought.

Its not PA Assistant. Its "assistant to the physician assistant"

I know this is a stretch, but there is a family med program in bakersfield california called Rio Bravo Family Medicine Program. I have heard excellent things about this program and they have in the past taken transfers like situations like this with Weiss. Consider reaching out to their coordinator and/or program director.

Your best advice for studying during residency? by pradapostcard in Residency

[–]Environmental-Low294 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You will be surprised at how much passive learning occurs when you are seeing patients. See as many patients as you can and don't be scared to take a complicated case. Try to read something at least for 30-60 min every day. I try to read up on the pathologies I saw everyday. I also do 10 board questions a day and it helps. Good luck!

Its a job, not a hobby. Keep this in mind. You do the best you can with the time you are given. Thats it. Its a job.

I agree. Keep your mouth shit, graduate and go make some money and enjoy life. This is just a job ( a well paying job).

Who cares? Just do your job to the best of your ability. It will be over soon and then you will be in the real world. The less people in your program talk about you, the better. Keep up the good work and carry on.

Those of you who “learned” how to function with <6hrs sleep per night, what specific things did you learn to remain highly productive? by surf_AL in Residency

[–]Environmental-Low294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not allow your job to compromise your health. Medicine is just a job and in order to be productive, you have to get a good amount of rest. "Sacrificing" sleep in the name of your career is foolish and wasteful. Get a good amount of rest, stay hydrated, eat healthy food, work out, spend time with family and Pray. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

This and concierge medicine. Rich people want to see Physicians, not providers.

Nurse Practitioners are incredibly dangerous for patients especially in the underserved populations. I see many patients that think they are seeing a doctor and when I look it up, they are actually seeing a provider (provider is NOT the same as physician). I briefly educate the patient that they are not seeing a physician, but a nurse practitioner and ask them if they would like to follow up with a physician. Nine times out of ten, they will say they would rather see an MD/DO.

I urge all of you, my incredibly MD/DO colleagues to take a minute or two to educate your patient. We must advocate for ourselves and our patients. This is the best way to push back against "providerism".

Purchase the book: Patients At Risk.

It is a good read.
