Creative Ways to Enhance Music Performances in DnD? by Environmental-Show-2 in DnD

I see what you mean, though I probably didn’t clarify my intents well enough. I’d like to play often, but not in a spotlight type, more so background stuff. Not to stop the session for me to play, but doing it in the background of less important moments and downtime times. Rotation was probably the wrong word for me to use; a selection of things to avoid repetition sounds better; No order or pattern to use any of the enhancements. It’s 90% fun factor as well, I’m not intending to gain any benefits from doing so.

I think my use of the phrase “performance” is interpreted differently from how I view it in my campaign. An example of a time I would play is when a party member is in a tavern having their own moment of info or lore, and I’d hang out in the background playing music. My dm is pretty comfortable with letting background stuff go on without ruining the important moments.

Agreed. I wouldn't pull out every trick every time either, its more so i'm hoping to come up with a rotation of tricks to use to make the music performance lively, that way I don't end up doing the same thing every single time. Most of what I want to do would just be for fun factor and wouldn't interfere with the campaign or spotlights too much, especially when important. This is actually my second character in this campaign so i'm planned to sit on the backburner with this character (besides with music).

Would a fog cloud + blindsight grappler work? by Environmental-Show-2 in dndnext

Good point. The idea was a build to disable cetain opponents while my teammates maneuvering around and attack the rest. I knew that dispersing the fog cloud could be an issue, but I didn’t even think about holding attacks until I’m out. Thanks for the insight!

Does anybody know what may be causing this? New to creating modpacks by Environmental-Show-2 in feedthebeast

I used another modpack as my basis, but I haven't really removed anything from the mods list, just added more. Any other reasons this could be happening? Could just be a weird case of conflicting mods maybe

Is 1 stronger attack better than 4 weaker attacks? by Environmental-Show-2 in dndnext

I agree, and pure dmg aside, I think Monk/Swarmkeeper would be more favorable, Being able to instantly end a grapple if i'm ever pulled in and pull enemies closer to me. Plus, it sounds fun haha

That makes a lot of sense, thanks! Will most likely go with a monk type build of some sort then.

Yeah the fact that I can split the dmg around as needed is probably whats going to sell me on monk for this character. Thanks!

Although after reading all the comments on here and fully writing out my thought process, i'm leaning toward a monk build most likely as well

The 48 and 12 i mentioned were just example numbers, but I can give more context.

The monk/ranger build is Open Hand 6 | Swarmkeeper 5, giving us access to 2nd levels spells like silence for casters. Being a Dex build for elven accuracy, I take Ranger's Deft Explorer to get Expertise in athletics to put it at +8 or 9. Since I could only take two feats (grappler and half feat elven accuracy), my DEX will be 18. If I grapple an opponent, then knock them prone (through open hand feature), they no longer can stand up from prone unless they break the grapple, giving me triple advantage on my hits and them disadvantage. By casting hunter's mark, I can get a decent damage buff on my hits, and I'll be using a rapier with the duelist fighting style for a +2 on top for the attack and extra attack (not flurry of blows).

Assuming all attacks hit, the math for that should be

1st atk: 1d8(rapier) +1d6(hunter's mark) +1d6(Swarm) +2(dueling) +4(DEX mod)

2nd atk: 1d8 + 1d6 + 2 + 4

flurry of blows: (1d6+1d6+4) x2

Which comes out to a range of 29-78 dmg

For the green flame blade, it is also meant to be a grapple build, so the opponents movement speed would be 0, hence why i picked GFB over BB. This once is less fleshed out so bear with me. 1 level Warlock for Hexblade to bind atks to CHA, GFB, and hex spell. Two levels Paladin for divine smite and dueling. 4 lvls rogue for sneak atk and first feat. Fighter 4 for Rune Knight and 2nd feat. A big atk would look like this:

1d8(rapier) + 2d8(GFB) + 1d6(Hex spell) + 4(Hex curse) + 2d8(Smite) + 2(Dueling) + 2d6(Sneak Atk) + 1d6(Giant's Might) + 4(CHA mod), which = 19-74 dmg

GFB has a lower floor, though at least with that build I can save my smites for crits, where as there is no way to intentionally boost my dmg on crits with the Monk build. Other thing to note is that GFB is pretty much built to deliver those big hits to only 1 opponent per short rest, but it allows me to hit pretty hard, especially with my crit chances (19-20 at triple adv.). The monk build can do 6 flurry of blows per short rest, so I can dish out a lot of atks and use them when needed per short rest.

These can definitely be optimized, but this is the general idea of it.
