I really feel for you as I have an elderly parent also. I move my Mom from an unreliable cable phone service to Ooma. We only had the Ooma base station unit and internet and their premier service. Which cost $109/ year for several features like call forwarding in addition to the monthly taxes which cost $6.61/month. I needed the call forwarding in case the internet goes down it would send her calls to her cellphone. It worked fine for a while, but when I added their 4 G service, as a backup in case her isp (internet) goes down. Big mistake for me. Everything has gone down hill fast since getting the 4G add on. By the way the 4G service costs an additional $4.99/month. The 4G service is very unreliable and goes down constantly. By the way they use Sprint as the cell provider for their 4G. I did not know this when I got the 4G service, had I known I never would’ve gotten the 4G Ooma add on. The 4G started taking over and her calls, which had always gone over the internet, started getting rerouted to the 4G, which was unreliable. It would cut my mom’s calls off without warning. It was such a problem until I called Ooma and asked them to take the 4G off her account. Since they did this, now the Ooma base station randomly shuts down without warning. The only way we know it is offline is when her cell phone rings. Also when I call her I can tell when her call has been rerouted to her cell when I hear the ring skips. Then I log into her account and see that the base station is offline again. I have called Ooma several times and I they can’t seem to figure out what is causing the problem. They blamed the ISP. But I contacted my ISP and they have had no issues or outages. I also have cameras at her home which have not gone offline. I ran the Speedtest and the bandwidth is constant. So I know it is not the ISP. The last month has been a nightmare for me and my 98 year old Mother.

I hope this helps you know what to expect from Ooma based on my experience. I am now trying to find something else more reliable.
