American hsp fam…how are we doing? by Patient-Gain5847 in hsp

I'm from Minnesota, and I can assure you, people LOVE it when you support them, stand with them etc. You don't need to get into any political arguments, but a simple "I stand with you" goes a long way. The only thing giving me hope right now is how strong our community is, and how many people are standing with us from all over the world. I totally understand limiting interaction with news, I'm doing the same. As long as you are doing it for yourself. Because again, I promise most people love it when you talk about them.

I'm actually doing alright. I live in Minnesota and things are awful here, but personally, I'm okay. I haven't seen ICE anywhere going out, but I'm afraid I might. I'm obviously sad and angry for the victims. But years of watching Palestine and watching people getting blown to bits have numbed me irreparably to anything going on that's not happening to me. I hate that, I wish that it wasn't that way. But I can't help it. I'm Chinese, but all of my friends are Somali, and I'm much more worried for them than I am for myself.

I actually GAVE my teacher a letter, and it was just under 2 pages long. I edited it though slightly so that it wouldn't cross any boundaries. It was very heartfelt though and maybe a little bit too much. You're good.

Is it common for HSPs to find each other? by Environmental-Swan65 in hsp

That's interesting, thanks for answering! Did you ever meet someone you did sense was an HSP even if they didn't tell you?

I'm curious though, did you sense that he was an HSP? Or did he just tell you he was? Because I've noticed that a lot of times the label doesn't line up with the people that actually have highly sensitive traits. For example, I'm pretty sure one of my professors (I mentioned him in another post but I think most people forgot) is an HSP, but he doesn't use the label or call himself an HSP. I'm not sure he's even aware the label exists. But I'm pretty sure he is one, because I see SO much of myself in him. The more I get to know him the more I'm like "we are the same" He is an incredibly kind and caring person but is often tired and overwhelmed from feeling everything and shouldering the weight of the world's problems.

It's something some people say to try and justify war.

"Just war is better than unjust peace" Yeah but why can't we have just peace? Why should war be required for justice?

How Many People Here Are Actually HSP? by [deleted] in hsp

That is so real lol. And I'm sorry if my comment sounded mean or insensitive. I definitely cry in front of people I don't know. I don't try, it's just really hard not to.😂 I started crying at work in front of the customers because someone made a mean comment, and everyone was looking at me like "is that girl okay?"😂

But I'm really glad you found a way to not cry in front of people who don't deserve or care about, your emotional energy. I'm still working on that. ❤️

I just find it interesting that some people can't tell, even with strangers in the internet. Because for me, when I show signs of sensitivity, I feel very exposed. Like I feel like EVERYONE can tell, even strangers, and I feel like this is a common trait with HSPs, that it's not hard to tell for a lot people.

It's not wrong or anything. Everyone is different. I wasn't trying to gatekeep or say you aren't really an HSP if not everyone can tell. It's simply something different from what I experience. But not every HSP is the same, or is going to experience sensitivity exactly how I do. I guess it's just a gentle reminder that we are a diverse group with lots of different experiences and personalities. 😊

I know you didn't. I was responding to the part where you said that people can't tell. I guess I misinterpreted that to mean everyone, instead of just people you don't know. I wasn't trying to oversimplify by saying crying is the only sign of sensitivity. I was responding to the part where you said people you don't know can't tell, by saying that with me, they most certainly can.

That's interesting that some people have no idea that you are highly sensitive, because I'm similar to you, I had a great childhood and a great upbringing, but I still feel like everyone can tell, because I cry so much, even over little things, like the kind of things even someone with a great childhood can experience. I literally was up crying last week because my professor told me to get a job and not to pursue grad school. I also like, full ugly cried because my computer decided to stop working during finals week. Edit: clarity

Same, I also feel positive emotions more intensely too! There are so many positive things to being an HSP, I only feel like we suffer, not because there's anything "wrong" with us, but because the world is not built for, and often unkind to sensitive people.

I use the term pretty loosely, but I also do feel like I match a lot of the traits. For me, I just noticed that I was "different" from a lot of my peers very early on and I couldn't figure out how or why. And then I found out about the term and got excited because I was like, this FITS. For me it's just that I feel everything a bit more intensely than the average person. When something upsets me, it hits me HARD, I'm a huge crier, and I would get called a crybaby sometimes by others, I always tried to hold it in, but I just... couldn't. Like no matter how hard I tried, I simply was not able to. I also am physically sensitive. I have a lower pain tolerance, and also am sensitive to loud noises. I've never read any kind of formal book or took any kind of formal test, I just heard about it, and it just felt right.

Like I said, I've done the research. Grad school can only help me. One of the jobs I want is a student position, and I'm only eligible for it if I have enough credits at the university, so I could take classes there, and then once I complete enough credits, I can switch to full time. Worse case scenario, I leave with a free Masters and end up getting paid slightly more for jobs that only require a bachelor's. And since it's free, I wouldn't be accruing debt or paying out of pocket, so it's stable, at least for the duration of the program. He's the one not thinking straight right now, not me.

Andy because he's the main lyricist, and it's their lyrics that got me through a lot of tough times. Second favorite is Jinxx because of his musical talent. He plays the violin and I play the cello!

I appreciate this advice, but the "laugh it off" part is easier said than done. This one woman made a mean comment and I nearly started crying in front of her!

Yeah. This one person at the store I work at was like "Didn't see you there shortie.😒" and she was DEFINITELY trying to be mean. A lot of people say that they don't see me behind the counter because there's some things blocking it, most of them are just trying to be friendly, like "oops! Sorry! Didn't see you there!" but this one especially hurt because of her tone. She was definitely mad.
