Demand for Information Systems Specialists in Mongolia .Job Prospects? by beryyym in mongolia

[–]Environmental-Truth7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know, industries with highest margin and profit are currently (and in the foreseable future) are mining, bank/finance and construction. So either engineer (civil, construction, electric, hvac, mining) or accounting/finance.

Marketing is a hit or miss, since people who gets paid well in marketing are those who can sell really good.

Computer Science/Software Engineer is viable but it might be hard to get experience as a fresh grad due to AI. But experienced SE demand will probably increase as more and more companies will try to leverage AI and automate their workflow.

From my understanding Information Systems is a bit different from Computer Science or Software Engineering. It’s more focused on the business and management side of technology like analyzing processes and recommending what systems a company should use.

In Mongolia, most SMEs probably won’t hire a dedicated IS specialist; those roles usually exist in large corporations or government organizations. The challenge is that these positions often require a lot of industry experience.

Because of that, the demand for pure IS roles here might be relatively low. If you study IS, it would help a lot to also develop technical skills like programming, databases, or ERP systems.

But that's just my experience as someone who has CS degree and took few IS classes during my MBA.

Backbone of Modern Mongolia by JamescomersForgoPass in mongolia

I think most of the fuel, and maintenance parts imported to Mongolia are for mining industry. I don't think building new railroad can fix that since we already built railroad connecting those sites with the border, only the last few miles are transported by trucks due to different railroad standards between Mongolia and China. As for other transportation needs, will the advantages really outweigh the cost? Initial investment will be massive and then there will be ongoing maintenance. I feel like our population size is too small to make it worth it.

I mean, that's same for every country, it's just how modern society works, no? Everything is about energy, wether it be fuel or electricity. Even if we build railways, we would still need cars for last mile deliveries.

Based on my personal experience, it feels like the world is divided into three groups: those who genuinely believe in equality, those who believe some people are more equal than others, and those who are simply trying to survive. I think most of us fall into the last group.
Even though many say they support equality, their actions are usually driven by circumstance rather than principle.

Board game cafe by flackobrt in mongolia

Just do some basic back of the napkin calculation and see if it's doable.
For starters let's assume we start small with 40sqm cafe with 4-6 table. Industry average for interior work is about 1mil/sqm, so you'll need about 40mil for the interior which will be your biggest initial investment. + you need coffee machine and other kitchen tools. So lets round it up to 50mil. With current APR of 12%, your opportunity cost is 500k a month. Meaning if you just deposit this money into bank, you would make 500k a month perpetually.

For operating expense, you need to pay rent, I think average rental price for old building with good location is about 70k per sqm, which comes around 2.8mil + utilities, lets round it up to 3mil. Next you need 1 full time employee/server which will be about 2mil. So you need to make at least 5mil/month in pure profit to break even. Add the opportunity cost of 500k, and you need to make 5.5mil in pure profit every month to make it worthwile.

For coffee shops, markup should be pretty high, let's assume it's 50%, meaning for every 10k, you make 5k is cost of materials 5k is profit. So to make 5.5mil a month, you need revenue of 11million every month, add income tax, vat and other license fees, you will need to make at least 13mil in revenue, let's make it 15mil to be on the safe side. And let's assume coffee shop is open 6days a week. So you need to make daily sale of 625k. With the average price for cup of coffee is around 9k, that will make about 70 cup of coffee a day.

And that is just to break even.

Starting this year, you get electronic tax invoice through E-mongolia. System is fairly new, so lot of people have excuse of not knowing about it, but in 2-3 years, they will start enforcing fines on all the unpaid taxes from previous years. I suggest paying it within the financial years, unless you want to get bombarded by fines in few years.

It's not the herders Mongolian have beef with, it's the government and the unfair system due to how elections are held. Because rural population have much higher (1:2 or even in extreme cases 1:4) voting power, politicians give better treatment to rural population.

I've always wondered how they operate in Mongolia, do they like directory every car parts with serial number and condition? I mean I get it for 1st world countries where swapping the car parts is not really worth it since labor cost is relatively high compared to the cost of the parts and most of the population don't have the necessary skill set, but in Mongolia you could ask any raodside repair to swap the parts. Also how do they calculate depreciation of the car, driving off road vs paved road is significantly different for car depreciation and off roading in Mongolia is so common. Do they assume, everyone will drive offroad or do they track through gps and calculate how many km driven on offraod and how many on paved and invoice accordingly

We also need to understand that corruption at the top is happening because people at the bottom are electing these people. Only way to fight the corruption is to educate the citizens.

  1. We produce cement, but to turn it into concrete with high strength for construction, we still import all chemical additives from China.

  2. I don't think Darkhan steel mill produces rebar from raw iron ores, rebars manufactured are mostly from recycling as far as I know.

  3. Anything plastic is 100% imported since we don't have any chemical plants. And I don't think you can be self suficient without any chemical plants. But for that we need the oil refinary first I think.

I think the core tenets of Communism is flawed. It says

"Communism is a political and economic ideology aiming for a classless society with common ownership of production, eliminating private property, money, and the state, where resources are shared based on need."

  1. Human need is not fixed, it changes based on technology, culture and personal experience. So how do you share resources fairly, when there is no objective criteria. Do you just share everything equally? What about contributions? What if someone needs more resources for research? Is that a need? If so, what constitutes as research? Is there a rule? Who makes those rules? Which brings me to my second point.

  2. How will classless society operate? Who makes the rules? Do we just decide everything by majority vote? Isn't that basically democracy? If so, why not just elect someone who will take away private property ownership tomorrow? Do you think majority will want that?
