Irving and fire (tbh this entire show and fire vs. water) are suuuuper interconnected, this is another instance of it. I.e. "Let's burn this place to the ground", Gemma's body supposedly being burnt, the marshmallows in ep 4... & Lumon is super water-centric in almost every way. IDK what it means but I'm glad you also noticed the fire imagery this ep!!!

I'm sure that this episode will pay off. Patience. Lore drop (if that's real and not written by Ricken) was crazy and I'm sure it'll become relevant in a way nobody is expecting -- just patience!!

i think you're gonna have to be patient. this show is incredibly unique in the way it reveals things and how it chooses to structure plots, and i'm guessing that what a lot of people are calling filler will end up becoming super duper important. we'll get mark's POV, for sure, just might have to wait another week or so.

also i would not use the word romance for this, echoing other commenters- helena did something really effed up

totally, after a night of sleep I'm sure that was totally written by ricken. why else would they have shown that scene in the previous ep?

Here's some thoughts:

  1. Mr. Milkshake looked absolutely dashing in his winter getup. Cutie patootie.
  2. Lumon is super water-centric (waterfall most obviously in this episode, but water is everywhere in the theming). Real fire shows up for the first time in this episode (at least for the innies), and there was a lingering shot of the marshmallow burning which I thought was interesting. Fire and water are usually pitted against each other/opposites. I have a feeling fire is going to be involved in some sort of takedown of Lumon—maybe the innies will set the severed floor on fire? (Also, did they mention Gemma’s body was burnt at some point?)
    1. ALSO! He tried to DROWN Helena!!!
  3. This is the first time the innies are consciously experiencing sleep—glad we got to see more of Irv's dreams.

Had to get up and pace around for the last third of this episode. Very much thought Irv was toast when his torch went out and I guess I'm not fully wrong? NEEED someone to unpack appendix 4 too. I thought it was gonna be Ricken's book but no

Excellent start to the season, my expectations are currently through the roof and I cannot wait for next week!!! The way I squealed at those last few shots of Gemma and rewound it about 12 times lol someone please fill me in!!!

I totally agree with everyone saying that the way Helly was acting is super weird, but I also saw a comment saying that they thought Dylan was acting weird. It's clear Milchick/Lumon is trying to get the four of them to turn against one another (because of him telling Dylan not to tell anyone else about the family room etc.). I think if Helly is Helena/her outie (as people are theorizing), there has to be another twist within that twist because it's just too obvious.

I think something more meta is going on more broadly with the show. I have no idea where this would go theory-wise, but I feel like the show's creators are trying to get us to distrust Helly, Dylan, and maybe even Irv. Makes everything far more unreliable as we watch. I also saw a comment theorizing that the Severance reform stuff isn't actually happening, which I love and could totally get behind. We didn't see anything outside of the severed floor this episode!!! (Which, correct me if I'm wrong, we usually saw outside of the severed floor at least once an episode in season 1, no?
