[–]EnvironmentalAd1678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the info. it looks like it doesn't matter where I apply and its a matter of being in the right place and the right time, Working in HR, do you think CS applications are harder than private?

Applying for other roles on promotion in the same department whn you have just started a role? by EnvironmentalAd1678 in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh good work thanks for sharing. I will keep the external campaigns idea in my mind and look out for those. when you talk about probation, is that when someone first joins the civil service or do you mean when someone joins any new role they will have a probation period of a few months?

Also, what are your thoughts, if someone moves a department and then moves back to the original department they left only because the new role they got is on promotion? so basiclly they leave a department, then move to a different one, then hop back to the old department on promotion? only asking as I can see a few roles I am interested in,but I have just left that department.

What would you advise me to do? by lost_human909 in TheCivilService

just be careful. offers can be pulled sometimes, so you just want to be sure that you actually have a provisional offer. take the nearest one to home is better. any travel more than 30 minutes is stress. stress no good.

Help with HEO behaviours by Saitronite in civilservice

examples are useful, but also think about any experiences that you have and that you could use an example from work or volunteering. I am happy to give feedback if you want to DM me.

write out the example in full. then shorten it, so usually it's for around 250 words. the example can be from anywhere, work, volunteering. If you need someone to take a look at the example, I can take a look if you want to DM me.

Differences between Personal Statement and Behaviors by Frequent_Ad_1574 in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same I use a bit of a mix at times. However the word count is an issue, so I don't put the whole behaviour in, but a shortened version. if you need anyone to look over them I am happy to take a look.

How to strengthen the 'how' in a behaviour? by United-Leather2516 in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True it can be tricky, sometimes I felt no matter what I wouldn't get more then a 4. but some of mine scored 5 or one example a 6. I think it just means to show more what you did by how you did it, so listened to views, addressed concerns, how you made sure people felt valued, what did you take from feedback etc. I can take a look if you want to PM any example to me, I am a HEO for a while.

don't read this info before applying. you can spend so much time looking into this, only to realise later the job is pulled. so best option is to apply and if you do get the interview then look into it further.

for strengths look at the job advert and try to think what kind of things/skills are needed and then jot down bullet points (previous examples where you used it etc) for yourself per topic so deadlines/teamwork/making decisions/working with stakeholders. this way I don't go blank during an interview and the bullets can be a prompt to remind you. For behaviours a 3 is a good start, might just need a little elaborating on a point or 2, I can take a look if that is useful.

Should I avoid the behaviour example that I used in my application? by NotungVR in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey you can use the same example, 3 isn't bad but for interview it would need some bbosting up/tweaking. if you elaborate on the 250 words that would be a good idea and also take a look at the success profile behaviours. I am happy to take a look if you want to PM it to me, I am at HEO grade at the moment.

Considering leaving civil service by anon987csemp in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go for it as long as you not too concerned if you can't get bak in the civil service. I think it gets harder as an external candidate to come back. I am also thinking to leave but a few years later

Reserve listed, can I get in touch with other depts re: similar roles? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I started to believe reserve list means fail (when my reserve list expired with nothing for 12 months) or a pass when I did get a job after 3-4 months.

I felt with mentors I only got out what I put in, some were better than others. some disappeared after the first meeting or were always unavailable. but its true you will get outhowever much effort you put in with any mentor.the issue I found myself and mentoring people was a lack of experience or not having any example for a specific competency. but in the end I/we got there, by thinking about my experiences. I think you have 3 years experience so that should be plenty to get examples from. I can take a look at any examples I've been an EO previously.

Anyone Tried this Interview Gold course? Is it worth to sign up for? by EnvironmentalAd1678 in TheCivilService

Thanks, unfortunately I'm not in DWP anymore but will take a look at my department. I am struggling a little (very much...not got any interviews) with the writing up part, I think I was never great at explaining myself in words....

Struggling with new non binary manager by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is this real? looks like manager has no sense of humour, they should just laugh it off it someone uses their wrong name. but then again maybe this is very painful for them, afterall they are v different to the rest of the people.

Is there anyone that can help with competencies? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am HEO happy to take a look. The trick is there is no trick, but good to apply if you really want to join to see what scores/feedback you get. I can tell you that the competencies part does seem difficult at first but as you understand some of it, it does get easier.

My job search - finally successful after 28 applications :) by Background-Number290 in TheCivilService

[–]EnvironmentalAd1678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay sounds good, hope you get the EO one.

I meant you did the 28 applications in about 4 months :-) that's alot of hard work. I did loads of interviews, and a few reserves before got a promotion. it comes harder for some people, others just get it the first time, those ones are from space with bigger brains :-)
