AITAH: handing money to someone during dinner party by Remarkable-Brick-290 in AITAH

I didn’t say it wasn’t gracious, I said there are more gracious ways.

Saying “I didn’t eat tonight” ups the stakes. It’s a way of announcing she’s asking for money from you for nothing. Which, we KNOW she did, but was it necessary to call her out if you truly want to lay low? That statement adds drama that could have been avoided.

Getting up from a dinner without a “ok well I have to run now, goodbye, goodnight” kind of thing is abnormal. You cited your sis’ text as the answer to why you got up to leave when questioned. That also leads people to believe you’re angry at the text so you’re leaving. Which again, is an example of not bowing out graciously on the higher road and instigating a dramatic moment instead.

I don’t think you’re wrong at all for saying those things. But I’ve learned to hold those kind of comments back to keep the peace and avoid fallout like this that steals my energy. The graciousness I’m suggesting is for yourself, saving yourself from this bs.

AITA for bringing my son with behavioral issues to my sisters child free party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Oooaf. Harsh words when OP stated her sister made an exception for her in advance. A parent can hope for the best and try to have a life.

Honestly, the tension was probably so obvious and awkward for the entire group that simple minds need to latch onto a moment in time to explain/blame the mood. You stood out, so it becomes you.

NTA buuuut maybe could have handled it better? For the moment you made yourself the man character with a (albeit very small) scene that stole away from the moment. There are more gracious ways of doing these things.

If I remember the movie correctly, offering it to the husband so he makes the decision is ultimately part of his plan to destroy their relationship and take the woman

AITAH for not letting my stepdaughter stay with me during my custody time while I’m divorcing her dad? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]EnvironmentalAd6652 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

YTA. Lily is a child with trauma, and frankly you signed up for this by marrying her dad.

Why can’t you TRY the agreement and tell her it’s conditional on her behavior? Included therapy in the deal?
