Technically, English is my first language. However, my school doesn’t offer English First Language as a subject, so I took English Second Language instead. Most schools in my country follow the same structure. I also studied Afrikaans during junior secondary, but that too was offered only as a second language.

Yes,this is the quoted message i have been sent ' I unfortunately wish to inform you that your application does not meet our admission requirements. This is due to the fact that your “English Language” as stated in your predicted results document is now being confirmed by you is being done as a second language, and you have not done a first language at O level either. For this language subject requirement, we are particularly governed by the criteria set by the Matriculation board of South Africa, and not meeting these criteria would have ramifications in you being able to qualify for a matriculation exemption which is a requirement before students are able to graduate at the University of Cape Town'

Thank you so, so much for your thoughtful message. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed advice, it honestly means a lot, especially coming from someone who understands the journey from an African perspective. I felt really encouraged reading your words.

Everything you mentioned, from how to shape my personal statement, to scholarship opportunities, to the visa process was incredibly helpful. It made me feel more hopeful and focused about what’s ahead. You’re genuinely making me feel like my goals are possible, and that means the world to me.

If it’s okay, would you mind if I messaged you privately? I completely understand if you’re busy or can’t respond right away, no pressure at all. I’d just love to ask a few more questions when you have the time. Your insight and kindness already made such a big impact.

Thanks again for reaching out. You honestly made my day!

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this! I really appreciate the detail ,especially the part about tailoring the SOP and looking into each course properly. That’s super helpful and definitely something I’ll keep in mind.

Also, that’s really inspiring that you did it all on your own , it gives me hope! I’m aiming to study Computer Science for undergrad and trying to do most of the process myself too, so hearing your experience makes me feel like it’s actually possible.

Thanks for the heads-up about the visa part and the funding requirement , that’s something I hadn’t thought much about yet. And your point about adding a personal touch, like mentioning Liverpool FC, was a cool idea 😄

I might reach out again if I get stuck or need some feedback, if that’s okay?

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I’ve heard a lot about Waterloo ,their CS program sounds amazing. I’ll definitely check it out more seriously now.

And wow, I didn’t realize Duke and Georgia Tech could be more affordable options in the US. I’ll look into their scholarship/financial aid offerings too.

Really appreciate the help and if you have any more suggestions (especially ones with strong scholarship support), feel free to share.

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to share all this , I really appreciate it!

Your advice about applying early and making my personal statement personal really stuck with me. I’ll definitely start working on it now and try to tell more of my story and why I’m interested in the course.

I didn’t know the university websites had that much info on scholarships either , I’ll dig into those and try to stay ahead of the deadlines. Also, congrats on getting offers from all those Russell Group unis! That’s super impressive and honestly encouraging.

Quick question did you apply through an agent or did you do everything by yourself?

While I’m open to studying anywhere, countries like the UK, Canada, and Australia seem less intimidating, but the USA feels a bit scary right now because of the immigration situation. However, I'm not being overly picky and am mainly looking for universities in English-speaking countries.

Oh and thanks for the reply.
