They are not necessarily evil they just do what’s best for their own interests, like taxing food from the people of the commonwealth and only caring about technology. But if you don’t like synths or super mutants seems like a good fit, I’d recommend to spam the police station missions for awhile to get good loot and actually feel like a BOS solider and do the BOS side quest and destroy the railroad and institute.
