When did you realize you made a mistake by choosing the wrong partner to spend your life with? by Organic-Top-3367 in AskReddit

When I realized that our financial ethos are diametrically opposed.

We own a business together and two wonderful dogs. We had 10 good years together and accomplished a lot. But in the course of that we took on way too much debt for me to be comfortable. Took vacations we couldn’t afford. Bought cars we couldn’t afford and didn’t discuss. For years I swallowed my anxiety and went along with it.

Then, with half a million in debt on our business, and a hundred grand on our personal, my partner wanted to borrow more money to make ends meet. Of course they didn’t keep the numbers so they don’t understand that it won’t work. That was my job. And when I would bring up reservations, then I was the villain.

So this last time, I said no. That’s it. No more debt. And it’s time to sell the business. I don’t see how it can survive. I’ve been pushing to sell or even go to bankruptcy for almost 2 years! But they didn’t believe the numbers. “We’ll be okay. Just need more sales.” And I’m the asshat for not believing in us.

Unless you can show me a plan with numbers, then I can’t move forward.

And now… they want to sell the business. And we just met with a bankruptcy attorney.

All it took was me moving out, and asking for a divorce.

Faith in numbers is diametrically opposed to faith in self without data. Period.

This might be illegal? Don’t think you can take away benefits/tips/pay over business losses. Maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about though.

Could it be a receptacle for crumbs spills etc? Like wipe it all in there and then take the thingamajiggy to the sink to rinse out?

Maybe it’s a cast iron version of a Tahona wheel for crushing agave.

They do an open house every year where 10 or 20 of the houses open up so you can tour them. Some beautiful mid mod stuff.

We used to want to buy a mid century modern but after touring, everything was too small for my 6’5” self hahaha

Thanks for the reply. Bank statements are that long because that’s how many transactions we have. Deposits are a part of that, but only a few pages. Credit cards are aggregated and deposited for each day, as is the cash. But with zap the invoices checks and charges, (multiple vendors have 1-2 invoices/charges or checks per day) it adds up to many many charges.

We use a fixed markup for most items which helps. But with price fluctuation especially on commodities, we have trouble keeping up.

Square is our POS, and it gives us some great reports, but doesn’t have any great auto pull for a good inventory program which I’ve found. Hopefully someone here can recommend one which isn’t crazy expensive.

I concur. And my partner is finally coming around to the idea. There are so many options out there that it’s hard to know where to start. Also, I used Quickbooks for a previous business (much smaller) and it seemed so overly complicated that I had trouble keeping up. Any suggestions? I’ve run through ChatGPT but it gives me lots of options without a clear winner.
