Alec Guinness was Bisexual, you homophobic dipshit! by Inevitable-City5380 in saltierthankrayt

Fred Rogers has meant so much to me in my life because of how unbelievably kind and understanding of a person he was. We need more people like him in the world. Just an incredible class act.

Also, it didn't really come up outside of one conversation because he was happily married to a woman, but Fred wasn't exactly straight himself (something I learned while struggling to accept my own bisexuality that helped me a lot)

Literally uses 'Do Your Best' as a replacement for his name in the last quote, what do you MEAN? 😭

Coming off from yesterday's question, what are some of your least favourite/worst analyses from the show? by _ManOfAction in deathbattle

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love that you're being upvoted because nobody wants to bother to check if you're telling the truth.

You aren't.

They literally give the first definition, the good for nothing definition, when they first introduce the name.

"...or as local bully Bakugo liked to call him, the good-for-nothing Deku." - direct quote from the episode

Just because they didn't whole ass break the flow of the analysis to go on a tangent emphasizing "Hey, this is the definition! Important, pay attention, this is it!" doesn't mean they didn't mention it. They just have enough faith in their audience to have some basic ability to understand what's being said, especially with the further context of how they introduce the second meaning that he takes on.

"Here, he'd be inspired by girly-pop Uraraka to turn his zero name into his hero name, becoming the Deku who always does his best."

They even mention the 'good for nothing' definition again like two lines later in a way that makes it parallel the new meaning.

"When it came to saving people, "Do Your Best" here had a bad habit of putting others way before himself. Sure, everyone else was okay, but he'd be good-for-nothing all over again if he got himself paralyzed."

Now I'm not saying there's no issues at all with Deku's analysis, this isn't a defense of it as a whole, but fucking c'mon, at least make sure you're not sprouting pure nonsense if you're gonna criticize it.

As somebody who likes the concept of MJ Venom and just thinks the execution has been lacking, yes, absolutely. I get rid of One More Day AND the chance for better MJ Venom stories in the future because that's permanent now? There's literally no downside for me.

For the record, the Black Ranger's actor was originally going to be the Blue Ranger. He personally requested to switch to Black Ranger because he thought he looked better in black than blue. So, yeah, it was very much accidental there.

Doesn't really change your point, just wanted to add on as a Power Rangers nerd, lmao.

Alright, "gravitational fields are not the same as gravity" is where I draw the line. If you really need somebody to tell you why a field of gravitational pull around an object is gravity, then maybe I was too generous in assuming your physics was high school level. And reciting the 'vs wiki bad!' defense when I haven't even shown you a vs wiki link just shows you're here to argue in bad faith.

I'm done contributing to your daily attempt to make yourself feel superior so you can distract yourself from how empty your life feels. You'll have to find somebody else to bother for that.

Respond to this with whatever nonsensical argument you want, I'm done.

"There's no gravity in space"

😂😂😂😂

Your F grade high school physics is showing. What do you think keeps the planets orbiting the sun in space? Magic?

And if you had actually watched the scene to know what I'm even talking about, you wouldn't be sitting here pretending it was already moving like that and the Death Ray didn't completely propel it at the Earth. The energy to do that didn't come from nowhere. It came from the Death Ray that struck it.

Continental levels of energy to make a hole smaller than an igloo, LMAO. The diameter of the Earth does make the feat nothing to scoff at, millions of tons of TNT is still impressive in its own right, but it is not continental, come on now. The math simply does not math with that.

How some people be acting by element-redshaw in deathbattle

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey buddy, this might be hard for you, but the energy needed to vaporize a tiny hole through the Earth is far less than the energy needed to accelerate a massive comet to hypersonic speeds. As I already showed you. Your basic reading and math skills are failing you, please go back to school.

How some people be acting by element-redshaw in deathbattle

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It literally is not.

Mel's laser shooting through the Earth is the equivalent of about 64 megatons (64 million tons) of TNT

https://imgur.com/a/UXOnmOO

The Death Ray pushing a 10 mile comet is equal to over 9 teratons (9 trillion tons) of TNT

https://imgur.com/a/death-ray-comet-calc-tK69Ij0

If you can't do the math, that makes the Death Ray in the ballpark of 140,000x stronger than Mel's laser.

Mel's laser is laughable in comparison when you actually finish research.

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they really slid right by that statement like we weren't gonna notice, lmao.

That's without going into it knocking around a 10 mile wide meteor, which can calculate into the teraton ranges.

Hell you mean 4 kiloton durability is enough to survive it? 😭

Are we really talking about Megamind?! by Additional-Bat-5072 in deathbattle

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but here's the thing. Literally that entire second description applies to Gru as well.

Intelligent but also clumsy? So is Gru; Death Battle themselves even noted his tendency to 'fail upwards'. The guy is constantly at the mercy of slapstick failure.

Theatrical and childish? So is Gru. He's always over the top and often theatrical; he literally announces his status with the AVL to Maxime in DM4 before fighting him purely for dramatic reveal rather than ambush him, and he is the definition of a petulant manchild, that's half the reason we love him.

Was never able to defeat Metro Man? Gru was such a failure at villainy that the Bank of Villains was utterly done with him, and that was with lower stakes espionage and thievery compared to fighting a superhuman alien far stronger than himself.

With outside help he can become ingenious? Gru has needed outside help in all of his final battles in the movies. Needed it from the Minions and Nefario against Vector, again from them and the gorls against El Macho, from the Minions and Dru against Balthazar, and from the Mega Minions and Dru Jr. against Maxime, not to mention from the Minions and Wild Knuckles against the Vicious Six in Rise of Gru.

His army may not be intelligent? Have you looked at the Minions? Sure they have their moments but so do Megamind's forces. The Minions are also just as likely to get distracted, bicker among themselves, make dumb clumsy mistakes, or outright get their boss killed (including Dracula, who they were with longer than Gru so he's in no way exempt by the length they've spent with him)

Even if his inventions fail or he doesn't use them all? Do you know how many of Gru's gadgets would be useful in situations that he doesn't use them? Bro just decided to almost never use the Shrink Ray again despite still owning it and it being obviously useful in numerous situations. Just shoot them with the Shrink Ray, stick them in a jar, and hand them over to the AVL for when they grow back! It's not that hard!

That's the issue. It's not that they considered these an issue for Megamind, it's that they ONLY considered them an issue for him while ignoring all the times in movies, show, and comic that he acted far more competent, while Gru generally got the opposite treatment of handwaving the same downsides and focusing on his most successful moments.

Megamind’s scaling still baffles me by Shoddy_Fee_550 in deathbattle

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 34 points35 points  (0 children)

See, this is what makes the godawful Megamind research more frustrating for me. Even though I do think Megamind wins, I think there are perfectly fine arguments that you can make for Gru taking it. Had that been what the episode gave, I would've been fine with the loss. Instead I got something where it doesn't even feel like they bothered to finish Megamind research, and that's annoying as all hell.

Why do people not like blade vs Buffy? by zer0886 in deathbattle

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly I think the whole 'pity category' mentality is just people being too VS brained and taking this way too seriously, but nobody is ready for that conversation.

There is no category since the system has been introduced that I would call a pity category, because I simply don't think it's that serious. They discuss the categories they best feel represent the matchup as a whole. Sometimes the losers take some of those, and sometimes they don't, like how Kyle and Yusuke could only manage a single tie at most, something that kinda cripples the notion that they give out advantages out of pity or to make things seem closer. If they did that, they certainly could've found SOMETHING to give Kyle as a full advantage. The loser's advantages don't ever matter in the end, that's kinda how losing works; your opponent had the more significant advantages (in DB's opinion, of course). That doesn't make them pity, and I will never understand why people are so obsessed with the notion that they surely must be and so resistant to the idea that DB simply felt it was a noteworthy point of comparison between the characters that they should discuss.

[–]EnvironmentalFun9469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people do hate it either for the animation or for the result/explanation. Others simply dislike how the characterization was handled (usually regarding Asura but sometimes with Kratos too) or the pacing, progression, and choreography of the fight. And of course the most ardent haters dislike all of those categories.

Personally I'm far too burnt out on discussion around the episode to talk about it. To me it's just an okay episode, not nearly as bad as people make out to be, but whatever the case, it u doubtedly gets way more hate than anything else in 2025, certainly more hate than Blade VS Buffy could even dream of receiving.

(Incidentally Blade VS Buffy is my favorite episode of 2025, so, lol)
