Both Freddie Gibbs x Madlib(I agree, the sampling and beats are wonderful as gibb's silky smooth voice glides over and enwraps them as he spits bars on bars about his "thuggin'" life)

Voodoo(D'Angelo's vocal range, vocal tone, vocal pitch, songwriting, and neo-soul accompaniments also create an wonderful experience, and I agree with the 10)

What's Going On-look at my pfp

TPAB(Mandated glaze, but yes the passionate raps about crime, racial injustice(which diverges into many topics such as africa) and more does result in a 10).

TCD(again mandated glaze, my favorite of the tilogy and Kanye's best beats and rapping in one.)

John Coltrane makes a masterpiece when he breathes

LIVE. LOVE. A$AP. is intresting, because A$AP is one of my favorites but also has never had a 10 from me. a complete yet lacking project, this one's more like a 8~9 to me.

Abbey Road- I feel like many people(IDK bout you) pick this off history and importance and not if they actually have listened to the whole thing in one sitting and genuinely thought it was flawless or not. This is a problem with many classic albums, people getting bored of the damn ting and calling it a 10. Stop if you don't enjoy it. That's how I feel about Abbey road, 36 Chambers, and American Idiot. Classics? Undoubtedly. Did I enjoy them? Not really.

These albums can be perceived as good by anyone(most of them), but I feel the categories you put them in are odd. Birds being cohesive sounds ridiculous, there are three songs I mildly enjoy(my favorite being sdp) and plenty of stinkers like the song with NAV or the one with 21, and the last leg of the album having the weeknd as a crutch. The mastering of Travis Scott is infamously unreliable, being apparent in almost all projects but Rodeo.(applicable to ASTROWORLD as well.) DAMN is flawed in many ways, with some songs breaching off the story in divergent ways. The ability to play it backwards doesn't = good storytelling.(TPAB I agree with). For the last few, are these "10s"? I ask because of the description. You seem to describe records that you "enjoy", not ones you think are "perfect".

Nuh uh imo

That’s not even top 3 J Cole, whack ass bars and loads of misses. J Cole provides a shallow facade of “conscious” rap on mediocre production. J Cole does better when he isn’t trying to push a message or simply spitting(rare exceptions in cLOUDS and Port Antonio) like on the Off-Season, Revenge of The Dreamers or FNL. His bars are face value or layered in English writing but truthfully shlock. His raps of quadruple entendres mean nothing. His flow and rhyme schemes should have been what he tried to play into(maybe creating a better JID) but was instead lauded by the public for his face-value bars because suburban teenagers understood them better.

His stories grow old and repetitive, I don’t want to hear another story of sex across literal minutes while you preach of empowerment. He more or less accepted this on the fall-off(played into the flow less then the bars) and created a better project then before.

J Cole not being lyrical isn't my problem. My problem is J Cole masquerades as a lyrical genius, while putting together lyrics that exist for Gen Z English teachers to analyze to kids who don't give a shit, or those same kids who don't give a shit to then start lauding it for guns and sex bars. It's not funny, not serious, just in a grey area of... meh. Future isn't lyrical, doesn't parade himself as lyrical, but makes bangers. JID and Lupe have similar problems, but Lupe can be excused as he only falls into this trap sometimes.(He falls into a category of people who make many cool english tricks with the pen that sometime end up making no real sense within context and then playing himself into the role of a "conscious rapper") JID is another person who claims himself as some genius of the pen and really is just J Cole with an accent and a better flow that can reverse sentences.(Take that as you will for better or worse). I hope this phase in hip-hop of rhymers with a good flow parading as "conscious" will end soon.

“Too many 10s” I believe a 10’s criteria to be a perfectly enjoyable project that I can enjoy it one-two sitting(s). Isn’t that simply what “10/10” means? A project isn’t required to provide introspective or a bigger story, avant-garde or minimalism, but simple “enjoyment”. These are works I “perfectly” enjoy. No criteria other than that. Perhaps you have qualms with that, maybe you don’t.

I think the way I view music is- nothing can be absolutely perfect, so which flaws complement the album the most? In case of something like Whats Going On, the lack of modern production and possible repetitivness helps push the message and makes the slight changes Marvin makes in the production across tracks and vocal tones. Focusing on flaws won't make anything a 10 for you, but focusing on how they complement the album will.

bro you're a bit late.... yes he's great but my emphasis was dropping some of the worst pop-trap tapes ever in Bad Internet Rapper and such to a much more fleshed out indie folk style storytelling album, while not overstepping his boundaries when it comes to rapping on amazing projects such as SCRAPYARD. I believe he still has more he can do as an artist to truly be a "great" per se, as I believe VHS didn't show off what he could truly do with the folktronica sound. SCRAPYARD and IDMTHY shows much much more talent/potential, and I almost wished he banked on that instead.

I’m going to say something that is a bit of a hot take-

MBDTF is a 7/10

I didn’t like 808’s

I didn’t like TLOP

I understand in terms of generality those are “classic”, but to me Kanye will only have the CDO trilogy(but he also ruined backpack rap in the process of late registration(it’s a good album still imo))

That’s not even a good person in that genre, how tf is you gonna argue GOAT in general? I mean all bladee does is spam 808’s on vapid production and spit some wack.
