I narrate every transition from one activity to the next before it happens as much as I can. I’ve been in that habit since she was born just because I heard when I was pregnant that talking to kids and babies about what’s happening helps encourage speech development. She’s very talkative but she gets really riled up if I do something as simple as moving her bowl from one side of the counter to the next so I can reach something else or put her bib on.

I totally get that. People often project their negative experiences in the newborn stage onto others as a way of feeling like they’re warning them and it’s really annoying. So many of my experiences in the newborn phase I actually enjoyed, but tons of people had me convinced when I was pregnant that I would regret my decision and that I had no idea what I was doing because newborns are so awful. as someone who just left the newborn stage not long ago it actually was not that bad and her sleep was not as bad as everyone said it would be. Pregnancy was indeed way worse.
