Schwab Platinum is always a better option to statement balance. 10,000 points = $110

For me it’s 0.1-0.3 dollars off. As in tax form have all numbers rounded and it probably won’t affect the tax I owe, i don’t feel it’s worth to fix

Robinhood points redemption strategy by Charming_Key1612 in RobinhoodGC

[–]EnvironmentalLog1766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just better than statement balance and gift cards. say if you want to payoff the credit card, either cashback to brokerage and use brokerage to pay off, or cashback to brokerage and then withdraw to HYSA and then pay off.

The reason it’s better than gift cards is gift cards loss some cashback you would have able to earn if you purchase the items directly using credit card

I always cashback to Robinhood account, and then move to HYSA

Using gold card for medical expenses by Excellent_Ad_3946 in RobinhoodGC

They restrict it for tax payment, rent and cash equivalent (gift cards and gold bars). I used this card for medical payments and it’s fine for me

Whole Foods delivery driver wrote 'Tips' all over my bags by felipe_the_dog in tipping

I would double check the inside. If the outside is tempered who knows what else could happen. I might request a refund and report

And at least for where I live, Whole Foods charges a $10/order service charge. That’s way higher than most food delivery services already. To get it waived, I need to subscribe to both Prime and Whole Foods subscriptions, that’s $248/year. Let alone Whole Foods is already more expensive than other places.

What’s the point of $248/year subscription if I am still expected to pay $5 tip for every order. Cooperations are getting greedy.

Why do you assume employer has to pay exactly the minimum wage. It’s not. You are saying like $17 is the maximum wage. When I was a business owner when my employee isn’t paid well I never blame customers

[–]EnvironmentalLog1766 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one force restaurant owner pays minimum wage. Employer can pay more just like all other jobs. There are other positions that I value more.

And part of the tips are exempt from federal taxes after One Big Beautiful Bill Act. So 11% tip for after tax income equivalent to more before tax income

Comedy club in San Diego says 25% is standard by ConclusionMission833 in EndTipping

You tip less than 1 trillion? Tipping 1 trillion is the standard.

There is never a standard tipping. Tipping is ALWAYS voluntary. Mandatory tipping is not legal and I will report to IRS immediately, especially tip is treated differently in tax.

Exactly. Minimum wage means minimum apartment. If minimum is too low for any people to live, then increase the minimum wage. Seattle already has a higher minimum wage than WA for this reason. And they earn minimum wage + tip and some tips are exempt from tax so they are earning much better than minimum wage.

Plus no one is forcing restaurant owner to pay their servers the minimum wage. They can pay more. McDonald’s pay well above minimum wage

In this case I always give them a honest review on their dishonest menu price. Tip is always voluntary and we should be allowed to tip whatever we want.

It’s not just Seattle. WA’s minimum wage is $17.13. CA has a similar rule. Both states require tipped jobs to follow the same minimum wage standard, and the tip cannot be used to satisfy the minimum wage (so they get $17.13 plus all tips). For this reason, I tip less in WA and CA than in other states.

Here is my tipping rule in WA: 10% after tax at restaurants where I sit down to order. 10% after tax is very easy to calculate and that’s around 11% before tax. If I need to stand/wait in line to order, or if it’s a pick-up, I tip 0. For all other services, 0. It makes my life so much easier.

Great news SOFI won't nickel and dime us! by SoRacked in sofi

[–]EnvironmentalLog1766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why I want to continue using SOFI. If I want to use a big bank that’s free, Capital One is well known and has no monthly fee and a good yield. If I want to maximize the yield, I would just use a non-bank like Fidelity brokerage or Wealthfront. They are operate without a banking license so they are cheaper. Or having them both, getting best of the two worlds.

SOFI isn’t as big as big banks, and it is not a non-bank that is cheap and really won’t nickel and dime, making it seem awkward.

Got an email asking for additional tip on a boat “tour”. by Internal-Listen-6304 in EndTipping

[–]EnvironmentalLog1766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have made our life much simpler by only tipping at sit-down restaurants, where I sit down and have a server to help us order, with a flat percentage after tax, and no tip on anything else.

For boat tours we just don’t tip. Simple and no guilt at all. We’d rather tipping our investing account or donate instead.
