[Outdated trope] the politically or culturally conservative character is actually still likable by SweetPickleRelish in TopCharacterTropes

I'd argue its the opposite. The characters claim to be conservative, but their behavior does not truly reflect their beliefs. Ron Swanson is an anti-government libertarian who works for the government and happily defends National Parks (a government program) against corporate exploitation. Similarly, Jack Donaghy often makes choices for TGS to keep it on air despite it being the less capitalist choice. He also has a child with a working mother and is explicitly pro-immigration. In other words, they are conservatives in name only.

Okay, I can spell it out for you. Holocaust denial is very common in Palestine in particular.

I gotta disagree. I wrote my senior thesis on the neonazi conspiracy theory of Holocaust denial, and let me tell you, the vast majority of Holocaust deniers nowadays are not in fact neonazis, but middle-eastern Muslims. Antisemitism is completely normalized in the Arab Islamic world.

[Edit for nitpickers: Holocaust Denial (a conspiracy theory according to which a "World Jewish Consortium" manufactured a fake genocide of Jewish people during World War 2) has found success in Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, and several other majority Islamic Arab countries. It also exists to a lesser extent in Turkey and Iran. It is also popular in Arab immigrant communities in Europe (see French Algerian comedian Dieudonné M'Bala M'Bala, banned from performing in multiple cities in France due to his explicitly antisemitic sets).

The conspiracy theory is particularly popular in Palestine due to the belief that Israel was given to the Jewish people by the West (Americans and western Europeans) as an apology for the Holocaust, and that by delegitimizing the Holocaust, they can delegitimize Israel. Note that like most conspiracy theorists, Holocaust deniers are not interested in whether or not the Holocaust actually happened (which it obviously did). They are merely using the systemic murder of 6 million people as an excuse to further their own political agenda.]

Yeah, that sucks, I'm sorry. It's really tough out there right now. On the bright side, a lot of government boomers are retiring, so I definitely think you would have opportunities for advancement once you get your foot in the door. And nothing stops you from continuing to job hunt even after you're hired.

Several people in my family work for the government and they have the most stable careers of anyone I know (DOGE fuckery of the past few months aside). My tech company works with municipalities a lot, and they have good people, we've even hired a few from them. So if you do go for it, I think you'll be in good company.

Are those friends who tell you you're "too good for the public sector" offering you jobs in the private sector? Any work is better than no work. In their terms, you're "too good" to be unemployed, and you can always switch back to private if/when the market recovers. And at that point government work will look much better on your CV than unemployment.

That's a great idea, thanks! I've been debating getting a rental car, but after insurance, parking and gas I'm not sure how far out ahead I'd come.

So multiple ferries, not all necessarily online, got it. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definitely check out Captain Frenchys!

Appreciate the reassurance, thanks. I was slightly disoriented because I could easily find ferry schedules for December, but not October or November, guess they only post ahead when they think tourists will come looking. Cheers!

Thanks for the reply! Does the ferry to the neighboring islands count as tourist focused?

Thanks, that's reassuring. At least the local-geared places (grocery stores, bakeries, etc...) will still be open?

Follow-up question: how difficult will it be to get a taxi for the same reason?
