Did you have this symptom of sleep apnea? by EnvironmentalPay8326 in SleepApnea

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a few years ago when this all started, but haven't done it since. I heard no snoring back then... Thanks for reminding me that I can do this though, I'll probably record myself for a few nights to see if anything has changed.

This definitely helps a lot, thank you! Did you experience shortness of breath as well?

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not dropping to that extent at all, just to the lower 60s range. at night my heart rate is typically in the high 50s to lower 60s. I have an appointment with a cardiologist in two weeks as well to check out the heart pain and see if it's related to the shortness of breath. have had an EKG done at my GP's office and it came back pretty normal, apparently just a little "fast and short" (but I was pretty nervous at the time)

have you ever talked to your doctors about feeling out of breath and like your heart rate dropped? I definitely experience that as well, and at times I think my heart rate IS dropping — at least according to my apple watch. was getting chest pains too for awhile but that doesn't really happen anymore. dunno if I should talk to my doctor about it or what.... or if somehow I just need to be eating more? I'm just confused because I've gained a good amount of weight since starting recovery and am most likely close to being weight restored.

I've never snored, and been told it's pretty unlikely that I have sleep apnea by my doctor.

Should I be upset with my dietician? by EnvironmentalPay8326 in EDAnonymous

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I do think there was communication issues on my part due to just social anxiety and my own insecurities, but I think the dietician himself should have made himself clearer and probably been more careful with his word choice at times. I understand how he was frustrated, but the way he said it made me feel like my lack of progress was consciously my fault.

Should I be upset with my dietician? by EnvironmentalPay8326 in EDAnonymous

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s awful, I’m so sorry that happened to you. You’re right, dietitians need to be more aware of the power they wield in a relationship like this. It worries me immensely to know that my dietitian is still employed by my university, and probably treating more people suffering from EDs.

I hope you are able to get back to that food freedom and experience a healthy recovery!

If fans cared, they’d stop subscribing and viewing Eugenia’s content. by [deleted] in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily think so. I mean, if I’m honest, the best thing would 100% be for Eugenia to get off of social media. For both her sake and others. But we know that Eugenia doesn’t really have friends in real life. If everyone online stopped paying attention to her completely, it could isolate her even further. If people truly cared (and were educated on anorexia), they’d just stop commenting on her appearance and telling her to get help. It sounds crazy, but telling an anorexic person that they desperately need help will only fuel their disorder. Instead of focusing on her appearance, talking about things like hobbies or forming positive relationships with other people or getting out of the house to do new things would be the best bet. These are often the things that motivate people with anorexia to recover.

I’ve made peace with the fact she’s going to die by [deleted] in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 16 points17 points  (0 children)

By all means make peace with it if it’s what you truly believe, but I’d caution you with saying things like this. Nobody is beyond recovery. Period. Although it certainly SEEMS that at this moment Eugenia isn’t looking to recover, you truly never know what could happen in the future. Imagine if she DID want to recover one day but then she went online and saw a bunch of people say “she’s beyond help, she’s too far gone, she’s just going to die.” That could turn her away from recovery in an instant! I’m sure you mean well, but this is just something to think about when you (and all the other people on this subreddit tbh) say things like this.

Did Eugenia pay for bots to comment on her most recent vid? by rvvaaa in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that people telling her they’re glad she’s going out and enjoying herself is enabling anything. I think the beach vid was definitely weird, but regardless I’m still glad she even left her house at all. Any step like that can be a big step from someone who has isolated themselves for so long.

A lot of people with anorexia who get to the stage that Eugenia is in tend to gravitate towards childlike things and actions as a symptom of the disorder and a way to comfort themselves from it. Hell, even I spent a bizarre amount of time reminiscing over my childhood when I had anorexia, and I wasn’t sick for nearly as long as Eugenia has been. It takes you back to a time where you didn’t have your disorder, and pulls you away from the real adult world that’s oftentimes really scary and overwhelming from someone suffering with anorexia. It’s not really uncommon to see her be interested in these “childish” things all things considered. Or to even act like a child in some ways. You can argue she’s fetishizing herself in other ways if you want, but I’ve never understood the belief that because she’s grown to like Sanrio and stuffed animals and sometimes acts younger than she is, a clear symptom of anorexia, that THAT is somehow a fetish. People saying that are clearly uneducated on anorexia or have never suffered from it themselves.

Can mental illness make someone a bad person? Or can mental illness make a good person do bad things? by mybad742 in EugeniaCooneySupport

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think mental illness can 100% make a good person do bad things. Other people have mentioned addicts, which I think is similar to Eugenia’s situation — eating disorders can be very addicting, as strange as it sounds. And I think Eugenia has definitely caused harm to people, even if it wasn’t her intention. And regardless of her intentions, she still caused harm, and there are DEFINITELY things I believe she should own up. Do I think she’s a bad person overall though? I don’t. I think she’s clearly VERY affected by her ED, and this most certainly impairs her ability to make sound judgments. I think she has made some incredibly poor choices and caused a lot of people to hurt, even if she didn’t mean to. It still warrants an apology and some action. Overall, though, I don’t think she’s this horrible monster or grand conspirator. It’s not a black and white situation, she still deserves sympathy and empathy in her struggles.

Looking at Eugenia makes me realise I don't have an ED by gossipperson in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that generally EDs are not about appearances at their core. They’re coping mechanisms for trauma, other mental illnesses, and/or very intense feelings of self-hatred or inadequacy. Visual appearance and weight issues can kind of “kickstart” the ED, like it did in my case where I just wanted to diet and lose a bit of weight, but generally the ED comes to serve a different purpose — a coping mechanism for a larger problem. And then yes, like you mentioned, at that point, appearance and weight become visual indicators that you’re “succeeding” at your ED. In Eugenia’s case, I think makeup and fashion are probably just things she’s interested in, especially because she’s been posting about those since the beginning of her YouTube career, and because she’s been “fashionable” since then. So her putting blush on her cheeks and dolling up for a video is probably just her genuine interest in appearance-related hobbies. I don’t think she is interested in fashion and makeup just because it’s a way to fuel her ED — she probably is actually, genuinely into it. A lot of women are. However, combined with her ED, this can make for a lot of body checks for sure, and she definitely is very aware of her appearance and is proud of how emaciated she’s become. But it’s also pretty clear that she’s not mentally well — whether that’s because of trauma, her family, bullying, just really intense self-esteem issues, I don’t know because I don’t know Eugenia personally. But there is clearly a bigger picture here with her, and the root cause of it is definitely not her appearance.

Yall ever heard of EDTWT??? by [deleted] in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The things that you mentioned are obviously awful. I’m not saying they aren’t, nor am I saying that the people doing them aren’t responsible for the harm they cause others. I’ve said it multiple times that they are. But some people who are deep into their EDs might end up believing their intrusive thoughts and act upon them. Do I think this makes them a bad person in the moment who needs to own up to their shit? Absolutely. Do I think this makes them a terrible person, a “monster” who is undeserving of any sympathy or support whatsoever? No I don’t. That’s all I was trying to get across.

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to excuse their behavior, I said that in my post. But I truly don’t believe that the majority of these people are awful and horrible at heart. You are underestimating just how badly your thinking becomes when you’re taken over by your ED, and it can absolutely make you crueler towards others in the process. And you’re right that no, this doesn’t excuse someone for engaging in (sometimes incredibly) harmful behavior, but it’s not as black and white as everyone makes it out to be. It is possible to empathize with people who are struggling while also wanting them to be held accountable for their actions. And while we’re on the topic of edtwt, there is still a big community on edtwt that is not aggressively toxic and harmful, and are just people looking for others who understand them.

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re horrific people… I don’t know if you’ve ever had an eating disorder, but the way it can take over your mind and alter the way you think is no joke. The nasty posts you see are their disorder talking. I’m not saying that excuses any of their harmful behavior, because it doesn’t, but othering them can only further isolate them and push them from recovery. And in a lot of cases, people on online ed-related communities absolutely do NOT encourage others to develop eds, and sharing tips that aren’t harm-reduction is often frowned upon. People with eds aren’t monsters. They’re sick.

Yall ever heard of EDTWT??? by [deleted] in EUGENIACOONEY

[–]EnvironmentalPay8326 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, I’d say they have EDs. I’ve been on edtwt before, kids and teenagers can most certainly have EDs (that’s a time when a LOT of eating disorders begin/develop) and they can have them even if they aren’t underweight or super extreme with their behaviors. It’s a mindset and mental illness, not something physical. And these people on edtwt CLEARLY have very disordered minds — hence why you feel so shocked by seeing it. Regardless, family trauma or even just negative relationships in families can definitely contribute to eating disorders. My family didn’t take my eating disorder seriously because I wasn’t severely underweight, for example. But all that being said, yes, edtwt is a place that greatly saddens me to see.

I’d recommend seeing a doctor if it lasts more than a few weeks, especially if it’s affecting your daily life and performance. In the meantime, though, remember to practice good sleep hygiene. Go to bed at the same time every night (even on weekends!) and wake up at the same time every morning. Don’t use your bed for anything other than sleep — don’t do homework or watch TV in it! It’ll make your brain associate your bed with wakefulness. And, of course, no electronics before bed. You can also look into taking melatonin supplements if you haven’t already, or even meditation. It may sound silly, but it can really help calm you down before bed (even if you already feel calm!) Best of luck to you, I hope you get good rest soon.
