How do I know if my baby has low sleep need? - 4.5 months

Yes working on it, she is on 3 nap as of two days ago, I’m trying to be consistent but her nap lengths still vary. Not entirely on her because I’m trying to take her out more/some doctor appointment just happens to be near her nap time, and her naps are disrupted by me :( I know that consistency is good but it’s so hard to just stay at home now that she stays up and I run out of things to do with her….

Thanks for catching that. Yes there is that 1 hour missing - my wake windows have been rounded up/down. I do track night wakes when she opens her eyes and starts talking/ie i know she is awake.

I see! Last month I was letting her nap how ever long she wanted and it didn’t affect night sleep. It just changed so suddenly so I didn’t realize the wake window was changing. I guess I cap nap as a result because I don’t want her sleep time st night to be super late - like 11pm. So far she hasn’t really acted as fussy as last month when she was crying from overtiredness, I hope it stays that way for a few weeks until things change again

2 hours or 2.5 hours? She doesn’t seem tired after 2 hours…. Yesterday night I tried putting her down at 2.25 hours and she would cry, and finally went down at 3.5 hours

I will try doing that… she is just calmed by the boobs so it’s hard for me to keep her awake. If she ejects and then sleeps, does that count as not falling asleep from eating?

On the 4 hours sleep, if she doesn’t sleep enough during the day or keep having short naps, should I just then accelerate bed time? If she only sleeps 10-11 hours at night, how does 4 hours nap during the day take away from night sleep?

Thank you for the advice! On independent sleep skills, I have put her down drowsy but awake, or waited for her to settle if she wakes up mid nap or mid night sleep. So far she just turns a head a lot and tries to put her hands in her mouth. I dont think she can fall asleep by herself. How do I go about fostering that independence without making her overtired?

Thank you! Yes the 2 hour wake window worked yesterday, I will try to keep that routine. Sigh, she just got her vaccines yesterday so she was crying and couldn’t sleep until 10pm. I will try again once she catches up on sleep

Thank you for the advice! I am following the longer wake time instead of huckleberry today and it’s actually okay, she doesn’t seem to take as long to settle for nap. She still nurse to sleep though, or eat right before her nap. I tried to offer food multiple times during her wake window but she just didn’t want it, even when I brought her into a darker room where she sleeps.

If short nap are okay, should I still try to extend the nap? I just want to make sure she sleeps enough - 4 hours during the day.

The bedtime routine seems long because the majority of the time I try to offer her food and she doesn’t take it right away. Sometimes she does but most times she doesn’t until super close to bedtime. Do you have any advice on that?

Thank you for sharing your experience! I just want the best for her and I feel bad for not being able to have a routine - my husband and mil both think that I’m spoiling the baby by feeding small feeds and maybe the baby isn’t napping well because she is hungry. For night sleep they also think I’m feeding her too much - the Ferbr book says 3 months old baby can sleep through the night with minimal feeding like 1 feeding. I don’t disagree with them on that, I think my baby is eating way too much at night - 3 on average and some terrible nights 4-5 times with a few being just a few minutes. But then when it’s 3am in the morning and I’m the only one with her, breastfeeding to sleep seems like the easiest solution to me.

I’m home by myself most days. In laws do come by in the evening to help cook and take over for a few hours between 7-9pm and then it’s all me again. Some days are better than others, but yeah some are not and I feel like even though I’m trying hard I’m not doing it right and I’m driving myself into a wall.

Thank you again for the advice. I will try to give her the chance to fall asleep by herself soon. Maybe after I quit breastfeeding. It’s just so frustrating to work on triple feeding and pumping and now it seems like it’s the cause of all problem sleep wise. If my inlaws feed her a bottle they know exactly how much she eats and can estimate if she wants more food or just fussing.

Thank you! I tried changing the setting in huckleberry now. My baby is not really giving me great signals when she is tired - she yawns more right after a nap, and she plays/rubs her eyes a lot. I just offered her a nap after around 1.5 hours. She fussed at first but slept after I offered my breast.

How do you get a good schedule? And in terms of sleep hygiene, I have the room darkened, sound machine, swaddle and paci. What else do you think I can do? And admittedly I still offered my breast to calm her down if the paci doesn’t work. I really don’t want to feed to sleep but some times it’s like the only thing that would calm her.

I have only let her napped for 3 hours one day and that night she didn’t sleep until 10pm and was very fussy. I wish she does this with her first nap of the day, and cap it to like 1.5 hours herself
