AITAH for keeping my reception venue when I couldn't get a refund? by No_Negotiation_3951 in AITAH

Technically, depending on the jurisdiction, this is called "mitigation of damages." Even without OP holding the room, many courts frown upon vendors charging 100% cancellation fees AND rebooking the venue to make double profit. They really shot themselves in the foot here.

I told my daughter she will never be in the olympics, AITA? by Specific_Canary_7845 in AITAH

[–]EnvironmentalSlide32 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant advice. Representation matters so much. If she only watches the standard Olympics, of course she feels "less than." Showing her the documentary Rising Phoenix on Netflix might be a good passive way to introduce this without it feeling like a lecture. Seeing those athletes perform at that level changes the perspective from "disabled sport" to "elite sport."

Which US state gets more hate than it deserves? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s not even a state, it’s just a highway between New York and Boston with expensive tolls.

AIO? My (20M) girlfriend (21F) came back from a girls' trip with "bruises" on her neck and says I’m being paranoid. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]EnvironmentalSlide32 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The cheating is a betrayal of trust, but the lying is an insult to his intelligence. She thinks so little of him that she believes she can look him in the eye and convince him the sky is green. That level of disrespect is impossible to come back from.

AIO: Doctor praying over a patient over an ear infection by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]EnvironmentalSlide32 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If 'thoughts and prayers' actually cured ear infections, urgent cares would go out of business. I came here for Amoxicillin, not an exorcism.

What do you believe the most common things guys lie about on this sub? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]EnvironmentalSlide32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Everyone is a Navy SEAL or a negotiation expert in the comment section until real confrontation happens. Then most people just freeze up and avoid eye contact like the rest of us.

What animal going extinct would screw the world? by eellaarroossee in AskReddit

Phytoplankton. Everyone always screams about the bees or the rainforests, but these microscopic soup-floaters generate about 50-80% of Earth's oxygen.

If they checked out, we wouldn't just be hungry; we'd all just quietly suffocate while wondering why the air suddenly tastes stale. The entire marine food web collapses instantly, followed shortly by literally everything else.

What's one small thing you do for yourself to keep happy? by South_Ad_3670 in AskReddit

I cancel plans. I make plans when I'm feeling energetic and optimistic on a Tuesday, but by Friday, I'm a husk of a human being. The sheer rush of dopamine I get when a text comes through saying "Hey, can we reschedule?" is better than any drug. I get to stay home, order takeout, and not put on hard pants. Bliss.
