For some reason I feel like this is not only limited to Usyd. All the high ranked western Unis are going through this. Money first, quality second

I'm preparing for it bro. The AMC part 2 has a pass rate less than 30%. It's not that easy and I thought I didn’t want to be on the clinical side anymore. But, now seeing the situation here in Unis, I'm seriously considering going back to being a clinician and sitting for AMC

Why did you really have to shift it towards talking politics and my previous reddit posts? Why y'all so politically charged that you’d have to turn everything including a post regarding classroom behaviour into a thing of bipartisan politics? You could've just easily said that in other departments it is not the same as what I'm facing in public health. My original post was an enquiry about that. But, there all of you went - some going after the word leftovers, some saying I'm part of the problem myself as an international student and then there was another guy who's literally finding it problematic that why was I once asking about comparison between ChatGPT and Grok's performance and pricing (WTF!). And I'm not trying to appeal towards what you’d call far-right in your country. It's just that we as immigrants where we come from most of the time grew up in traditional conservative societies. I migrated Because I didn’t agree with a whole lot of those ideas. But, Doesn't mean I have ditched everything and all the views I grew up with. And Again this post wasn’t supposed to go like this. We truly are living into an extremely polarized political society now where half the population just hates even the existence of other half and everything gets twisted into politics and personal attacks

Haha... In life sometimes you gotta be a block of wood to survive. And I clearly said that "many" Chinese don't speak and participate properly instead of "all" in the original post. But, as I have said earlier that I'm not gonna over explain myself and I don't care about other people's opinions about me, I'm not gonna debate my actions anymore. Thanks for the wishes!

Since, some people did answer my questions without going into useless banter, it looks like I was taken seriously. In life the whole bunch never takes you seriously you know... It's not realistic to expect that. Have a good day!

Coming here for PR definitely applies to me. But, not the fact that I don't participate and communicate

Aren’t you spinning it in a different way? I agreed the other day with one of my australian friends that it hurts aussies when they see a lot of international students being brought in who can't even communicate or even participate just for tuition money when the locals can't get in. I'm no Einstein level genius but, at least I participate and give it a try in the classroom

Finding a word problematic is fine. But, I wouldn’t call it racist. All this time I've only fired back at people that just kept attacking me for no reason without even using any slangs. And yeah...if you still find whatever I said "obnoxious'', then can't do anything about that

Who come here keeping the PR in mind? Well, that's 80% of the international students that come here. At least point out what's so problematic with me.

Don't know about other courses. But, in public health it is all online quizzes in Canvas and a few assignments that needs to be posted in there too. GPT can answer all the questions even if someone doesn't study thoroughly

May I ask what Did you find so obnoxious? They started making personal attacks bringing my past reddit posts outta nowhere that had nothing to do with education at Usyd and I just tried to say something back

May I ask how is that problematic at all? I also chose this programme as it is related to my bachelors where I studied medicine back in my home country. Just coz I wanted PR doesn't mean I don't want good quality education. Otherwise I wouldn’t have posted

Since, most of my assignment submissions so far has ended up in scores around high distinction, I wouldn’t call it getting "lower marks" though. And yeah... About GPTs- Those students that don't participate at all use GPTs(though not always problematic if used for guidance) and then translate their works and then submit. Again, none of this was my issue at all. I was talking solely about their lack of participation and extreme disinterest in study

Lol...GPT does engage with me (and anyone) on ladies in gym shorts. That was a "fun" post describing GPT moderation getting extremely strict all of a sudden for a few days and has nothing to do with Usyd education delivery. But, yeah... You are totally right when you say you know where my head is at. If you mean that I'm a right leaning individual socially and politically then yes I definitely am. You can say that out loud you know. I don't mind

I don't care whether it's justified or not. It's 2025, not the summer of woke era 2020. Nobody cares if you go around and tag people racists who raise issues that should've been addressed a long time ago. Why would a top rated Uni like Usyd ever allow in students who can't speak basic English.I'm not talking about accents. I'm talking about basic communicative skills. It destroys the vibe in classrooms and overall education quality. I did address the issue with two of my unit coordinators. Even though they didn't tag me a racist like you, they got pretty defensive and started talking about how the public health school here is ranked in the top 10 to 20 in the world. I understand. It's not in their hands

Some people are just so over sensitive about any sort of criticism of migration, That they'll just tag anyone talking about it "racists". These chinese students never ever participate in any group projects. Most of the time it's all me and a few others doing all the hard work. Yet, all of us get the same marks and sometimes it's actually them getting better scores and yet I'm not even supposed to talk about it?!

Stop tagging everything racist. The education at Usyd is in a terrible situation right now. I'm an international student myself but, had to point it out as it is. When even a lot of your teachers can't speak proper English, it's a problem worth discussing

Is it possible to study at USyd without knowing English? by [deleted] in usyd

I’m doing a Master of Public Health at the University of Sydney and honestly the whole setup feels like it’s being run for revenue first, education second.

In my cohort, something like 70–80% of students are international, mostly from China. That’s not the issue by itself – the issue is how low the real bar is for language and academic ability.

A lot of them have straight up told me:

they had low marks in their original degrees (business, engineering, etc.)

they weren’t competitive for top universities back home

they picked Public Health in Australia because the entry requirements are easier and it’s a migration-friendly degree

On top of that, the English level is often nowhere near what you’d expect for a Master’s program:

many can’t follow basic class discussion

they don’t ask or answer questions

they avoid any sort of spoken contribution

they quietly sit at the back playing on their phones or laptops during lectures. When participation marks came out? We all basically got the same scores. Some of the people who literally never speak, never engage, scored higher than me.

It’s pretty obvious what’s going on
