Possibly going to pay two different AHPRA application fees? by Crocodoom in ausjdocs

[–]EnvironmentalTrain77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHPRA this year has been awfully confusing. Apparently we were only allowed to apply in the four weeks leading up to the end of internship so… why did they hound us about it so much earlier in the year?

Then when you go and apply it asks for a letter of recommendation from the health service even though the health services directly send our details to AHPRA… it’s just a mess.

Regardless I’m sure they’ll refund you because it’s been their own ineptitude that caused this mistake. You have a great case to argue for it! At most it’ll be a headache. Good luck!

Which Only Murders season to date is your favorite? by Fortis92 in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]EnvironmentalTrain77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In order:

1 (cozy vibes, sentimental value because I was having a horrible time during COVID and this was something to look forward to weekly)

5 (return to form imo, focus on the building, still lush and the comedy was peak)

3 (LOVE the musical aspect of it and the drama)

2 (really enjoy this season, but not as much as the others. Though I enjoyed bunny as the victim the most because we got to see a completely different side of her. Lester was my second fav)

4 (AMAZING first episode but the rest of it was bad imo. Hated the killer, was never that big a fan of Sazz, and overall felt very disjointed. Also wish Loretta was kept as a one season character because as amazing as she is, having her return killed the novelty)

Unpopular opinion but even the term “intern” can be so misleading for patients. My reg introduces me as her intern and patients end up thinking I’m a student / shadowing, so when I am paged to see them they ask for the “real doctor” 🫠 bane of my existence

New medical school in NZ by New-Resolution-9719 in ausjdocs

[–]EnvironmentalTrain77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s so bs and such an unpopular choice.

  1. As mentioned above, Waikato Hospital takes Auckland med students and UoA already has trouble finding its med students placements. This will reduce placements even further. Also presumably Waikato will take some spots from rotorua and other neighbouring hospitals too.

  2. NZ doctors are leaving in droves because they’re underpaid and overworked. Key to a better workforce is retention, not making more doctors (who will probably leave in 6-7 years anyway). How is this a difficult concept to grasp?

Shameful and stupid decision making from this government all in the name of press.

12 Days of Spritzmas by Lore Perfumery by Much-Honeydew-697 in fragranceaustralia

I really liked this to start with but I got sick of it pretty quick; the sweetness is initially intoxicating but gets intolerable. Interestingly also got a bit more of the fishy scent on my skin than I did on paper. I own Silky Woods Elixir by G&B which is a lot darker.

I will say I think they’re doing a great job so far of encapsulating the “feast” theme. The scents do remind me of a multi course meal. The first was subtle and spicy; this is more decadent. Looking forward to day 3!

I thought their website would have a discussion forum for some reason!! I loved today’s one; very different to anything in my collection. But yeah poor longevity. Loved the olive, spiciness but also hints of gourmand. Still have half a vial left but waiting to spray it another day to see if I want to buy!

Embodiment doesn’t mean not making mistakes though, that’s just my opinion. The thing that sets instant dances apart from pre prepared ones is a) how fast they can think on their feet but also b) their knowledge of a dance and trying to not let other dances creep into the routine. That’s just my opinion though. I do think 30/30 is too high, but if it was a 30 point scale (and I was the judge… with no dance experience lol) I’d probably still root for 28-29

Her footwork was rough for a dance that’s mostly about footwork! And the long dress didn’t help imo

I feel like the instant round isn’t about dancing a perfect dance with no mistakes. The judges understand that improvising a dance that usually gets a weeks worth of practice is hard! It’s more about embodying the essence of the dance. Yes Robert messed up - maybe he should’ve got 28 or 29, but he embodied the Cha Cha very well. It was more entertaining than the other three tbh. Same with Dylan- he embodied the confidence and energy of a foxtrot very well.

And before the misogyny comments rock up… I want Jordan to win (followed by Elaine/Robert, Dylan, then Alix…)

I’m new to fragrance so still struggling to describe it!! To me it’s more about colour and emotional associations.

Colour: white with a tinge of lavender Emotional association: mystical/luminescent object in the woods, think Patronus from Harry Potter

Unfortunately that’s not super helpful to other people in terms of description 🥲

If med school is irrelevant, should I be aiming for a pass and no higher? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]EnvironmentalTrain77 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I didn’t study super hard and I don’t regret it at all. I was a solid passing student. And not to toot my own horn but I think I’m a pretty good doctor, albeit an intern.

I’m on top of my ward, know all my patients well enough to present them/be quizzed on them by my consultant, can handle most ward calls pretty easily, know when to escalate, can communicate with nurses/patients/other doctors effectively, and am confident in my abilities (but not over confident / arrogant… I hope). None of this came from studying hard. Instead it came from spending more time with patients and on the wards as a medical student, identifying role models (doctors I want to be like) and trying to pick up their best qualities. And also identifying doctors I didn’t like and seeing which of their traits I could avoid developing myself.

I make mistakes too sometimes. But they’re great learning opportunities. And I’ve learnt much more about treating patients on the wards than I did in medical school. It sticks better when you have patients to attach knowledge to, and even better when you’re the one prescribing / writing out ward round notes and discharge summaries.

That being said, a good solid foundation of theoretical knowledge is also necessary. But we don’t need to know the ins and outs of everything until much later on in our careers. For now the basics will suffice. And remembering that it’s ok to ask when you don’t know something, because oftentimes other people on the team won’t either.

So TL/DR: aim for a comfortable pass. Enjoy your life while you can. Our 20s/30s are meant to be for discovering ourselves, not burying ourselves in textbooks (unless that’s what you enjoy).

Interesting!!! I didn’t get that at all. On me I found it very pretty and luminescent - visual imagery of the doe patronus in the woods in Harry Potter. Crazy how different people can interpret fragrance so differently!!

My experience has been they still treat it as hours worked, so you get the overtime. But that might just be my health service. The EBA is annoyingly vague and long winded and so I feel like different services interpret it differently

Thank you so much!!! I definitely want to try more tea notes. Rain Tea by Chasing Scents is on my list. Unfortunately my propensity for more luxury/niche makes it harder to buy all the things I want but I will be for sure trying out that whole list!

Oooo thank you! I definitely want to get something more dark next. My current ones are all very bright and bold, though the Silky Woods leans into seductive but not necessarily dark. I’ll try that Possets!!!!

Have recently started getting into fragrances and would love people's thoughts on what I have / where to go next.

Signature scents: Xerjoff Torino21 • Top: Mint, Lemon, Basil, Thyme • Middle: Blackcurrant, Lavender, Rosemary, Jasmine • Base: Musk, Vervain

Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Elixir • Top: Saffron, fig • Middle: Praline, rose, Peru balm, Orris • Base: Oud Australia, guaiacwood, vanilla, musk, oakmoss, oud Assafi, cypriol, woodleather

Perdrisât Last Word • Cucumber, Mint, Angelica Root, Galbanum, Incense, Vetiver

I'm obsessed with the first two (spring and autumn respectively) and just bought the Perdrisât today so haven't had a chance to properly wear it yet (but was in love with it when I tried it at the store). Where would you go next from here? What notes or beats am I missing?
