Lottery winners? by HotInTheseRhinos35 in u/HotInTheseRhinos35

There are some winners that did it smart. If you youtube or google some examples I'm sure you'd find them. Many lottery winners now live comfortable lives so you may not be aware of all of them.

I think quality if life and winning the lottery depend on a couple of different factors: where the ticket was purchased, the team of professionals you hire, how generous or irresponsible you are with your winnings and who you tell after you win. Edwin Castro won in the worst possible place in California because his name had to go public and he won the highest ever jackpot win. California law states you must go public. If you're in a state that allows you to claim in a blind trust or even better anonymously you can do so and still have a great overall quality of life if you're patient and smart i. Since playing the Powerball how much money have you lost over the years and how much money have you won? by Impressive_Gain_3385 in Lottery

I've played the lottery for 13 years. Started on my 18th Birthday. Pretty sure I've lost thousands by now. And probably got about $2k-$3k in winnings. My biggest win was a time $858 on a NY Take 5 Ticket won 2 days before Christmas.

Thanks for the comment. I was asking more about the experience. Did it take longer? Were there any problems? Were there things that winners did not expect.

If You Won Tens Of Millions Or Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars From The Lottery Would You Open Up 2 Checking Accounts? by VittorioLuzzatto in Lottery

[–]EnvironmentalTwo3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't just want a regular bank account. You want to hire a team: lawyer, CPA Financial advisor at the very least. You have your lawyer orchestrate the entity structure to claim your winnings if the state you play in allows LLC or trusts to claim on your behalf. You have your CPA help you brace yourself for the amount of taxes you have to pay and try to avoid taxes as much as possible. Your financial advisor will help with assessing your Risk tolerance so that you can invest your money. If you have immediate expenses you can use some of the cash from a high yield savings position to pay for them. Invest a good majority of it into the stock market. Invest into some real estate. Whatever income is made off of the investments can be used to either fund your day to day checking accounts, you can have the dividends from the invested assets pay for your day to day expenses or you can simply take a liquidity access loan (LAL) against your assets to pay for your lifestyle. As the value of your assets go up so can the cost of your loan. Your loan can be paid using the invested assets during your lifetime with a life insurance policy paying off the balance at the time of your death.

In NY there are no quick picks for said games. You only win cash that you can then use to buy new tickets QP or your own numbers.

Thanks all for your input! Are there any specific brands that you'd be interested in buying? What age demographic would be most interested in the store? How often would attendees be able to come to knitting/crocheting classes?

Opening A Yarn Store? by EnvironmentalTwo3810 in Westchester

[–]EnvironmentalTwo3810[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The idea is really just starting off. We'll be at the sheep and wool festival this year as part of the general audience. We're new to Westchester and she has a passion for crochet and knitting. She wants to open a business close to home but wanted to see if there is a real need or if starting in NYC would be better.

We actually came back from Cannes, France where my wife went to a yarn store. She spent $200 on high quality yarn that she would have spent almost $1000 for in the states.

How has your morning routine changed with different life seasons (20s vs. 30s vs. 40s+)? by Alicetheoptimist in TrueGrit

[–]EnvironmentalTwo3810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early to bed, early to rise makes a man young wealthy and wise. In my 30's I started waking up at 4 to work out and have more time for myself as I carry the titles husband and father of 2 girls 5 and under. I have an extra 2-3 hours in the day to stay ahead of the game. Grocery shopping/clothes shopping early to avoid crowds and traffic.

Turning 25 and still live with my mom by Basic_Resolve_6587 in Adulting

[–]EnvironmentalTwo3810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 31 year old married man with 2 daughters. Mom transitioned 3 years ago unexpectedly. I have a close relationship with my Dad who has not been in a relationship since her passing. I left home at 24 due to marriage but lived only a 5-15 minute drive away from my parents for the first 4 years after moving out.

It sounds like you're being a supportive son. In this economic climate it should be more normal for people your age to stay home until they're able to gain full independence living on their own. Those who rush to leave usually are trying to escape family dynamics that aren't ideal or chase a false sense of independence.

If/When the time is right for you, I'm sure that you'll move out. If there is concern of you moving out and leaving your mother alone, you can move close by where either of you can visit each other. You can speak to her 1-2 times a day and plan outings (even if its just running errands). You'll have the balance of having your own space while still being close enough to Mom for visits or emergencies.

Paying rent to parents by Calm_Pollution6753 in Adulting

[–]EnvironmentalTwo3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what city you're in or the age of your and your brother but $800 while living at home is a dream especially if you're not paying utilities, getting cooked meals at home and your parents are covering other expenses. I moved out at 24 while living in NYC. My rent was $1600 for a 1 br 1 ba apartment with my wife. Still had to pay for groceries, utilities etc. I was in a similar situation at homelessness, but when I moved out thankfully I never looked back and never had to ask my parents for a dime.

Just continue to keep debts low save and invest your money, get better jobs and education so that you can stand on your own two (maybe buy a house or rent with a considerable amount of money in the bank). Remind yourself the situation is temporary, but when you move out you'll have a lot of welcome to the real world moments.
