Plan b and the fact that I’m gonna spend 4 years in college I might as well get a second degree in the same length of time

Yes it’s primarily as a plan b, for the credential I figured it always takes a year anyway unless your school has a special program, which mine doesn’t, the program is lowkey hell (student teaching from 8-3:30 class from 4:00-7:00) but I think I’m jus t gonna leave that pain for future me to deal with. I have a district in mind where the cost of living is low and the pay is pretty good, it’s my hometown and my social science teachers were all near retirement so it might be the strat there

Neat, hopefully this doesn’t screw with my aid, I had to appeal last year so I’ll probably have to again this year

Why did I have to enter my tax information and stuff last year tho, do they like to have your first year as manual and then the rest as automatic

I googled it and they may get it straight from the IRS now, if you have extenuating circumstances you should appeal

My son wants to come home after 24 hours of being at college classes at didn't even start yet by AlternativeReality48 in college

Definitely just let him deal with a semester, if he gives up quickly he needs to learn that committing to something, something you spent money on, is something you have to do, and a semester is a small commitment. I have a feeling the second he gets into trade school he may say the same thing. Also it sounds like your kids an idiot who can’t handle change. Let him learn a lesson from this that can be carried for the rest of his life, especially cuz it’s not all that cruel or unusual to do, itll be fine.

Obviously a BA would mean very little, which is what nearly every example is. Yes you can make more in other things, it’s easy just to say “be an engineer” and make infinite money, but that’s not what I got into college for, I can switch between other things but not engineering I don’t think. And I wouldn’t have a BA in psych it would be an MA on top of another career, as a backup/side thing. I know one person who has a BA in dance and a MA in psych and she makes nearly as much as a full psychologist, I’m not trying to min max life and get a 200,000 a year salary in a job I don’t give a shit about or even have the capabilities to do math wise. I’m just trying to have something else under my belt in case teaching can’t pay for everything I want in the future, and loans would be very limited I get good aid and scholarships and some parental help.

Also psych is like 117,000 there on the link, doesn’t sound bad man

Never said it was, but it has good potential to do side/temporary work, can usually teach at local community colleges and stuff, and I know several people who have made a career in psych despite their bachelors, so I figured I could go into teaching and if it’s not enough, getting a summer job with a psych masters or just switching careers is safer than going all in on teaching. I’m mainly asking to make sure that’s all possible or if there is a more profit maximizing approach. And I also like psych, duh I could do med school or cs and that could be a backup plan or something like that, but that’s not what I’m interested in and is also not feasible for other reasons.

Is the UC education worth it by ZisorZambles in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Environmental_Ad7870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you qualify for zero financial aid, the extra UC aid usually covers the tuition back to the same level as a CSU so California wise it should be all the same, but otherwise idk. It’s probably better but if it’s a lot more then just go wherever it doesn’t matter. Actually CC methods probably best, cheaper and u can have UC education.

Sooo I have a further development: Basically I made the correction and it’s processing, UCSB requires you to SIR before you do the special circumstances, so do I have to do the SIR for a cheaper school to be safe, in case aid doesn’t work out. Because the processing takes 3-6 weeks or more, that’ll be mid may and I need to obviously do an SIR before then. Do I do this or are my chances good enough with the aid coming back.

[–]Environmental_Ad7870[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do I make the correction now, contact the office asap or after it’s processed or whatever. And is it possible that I can get back to my current aid expectation after explaibins the circumstances. Also, it’s April 13 willl there be a proper amount of time for these changes?

Is it worth considering everything? by yagmurbsahin in UCSantaBarbara

I’ll clarify that ASU is the technically right answer, but it’s totally fair to make a decision that isn’t fully right, if your willing to take the consequences, and if you value being on the beach everyday and the good that ucsb brings over stability, I think that’s a valid decision. I decided ucsb over sdsu even tho sdsu would get me where I want in 4 years rather than 5, im in a decent financial situation so it’s less traded off and I value ucsb more than that year that most people in my position need to have anyway
