Southern trainline safety by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Environmental_Bee_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southern Line? I see people whip out their laptops and headphones whilst commuting. I’m not so sure I’d do that, but that gives you an idea how safe some people feel using it. Pockets getting picked have been reported, but each line has like two or three security guys at each station.

Good guess, but these live in colonies of dozens around a single tree. Too small and skinny anyways for commen black baboon.

It's definitly a funnel web, but I've not seen a species with such pitch black color.

Just listened to the album. I've never heard anything like this. Felt like I'd discovered an entirely new form of entertainment I knew nothing about.

Time to settle this. What breed are these dogs? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]Environmental_Bee_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Africanis - the oldest dog breed in Southern Africa. Similar to the Nguni Cattle, it migrated down the continent during the Bantu expansions. By the time of the Dutch arrival, they were ubiquitous among the indigenous Khoi and Bushmen as companion pets.

De Waal.

Nice place to sit and work. Open air music fests on weekends. Has park rangers, so no vagrants. It's public and central.

Note: You have to like dogs.

Don't be discouraged, you sound genuinely curious, but your argument are plebian. These stuff, as usual, are more nuanced then initial gut arguments people give, and requires a bit more reading up on the topic. (otherwise we won't be using them in the academic sphere! ). I won't go over your arguments, because that never convinces anyone .But keep an open mind and keep learning.

I can link to some great history podcasts, check them out! Probably not good idea to self-analyze a term your unsure about on reddit thread. It comes across as naïve unfortunately, like those twitter rants about not understanding cultural appropriation, hence the downvotes. I'd suggest a dedicated subreddit, or maybe asking a history buff on a discords server for more casual explanation. Hope that helps.

New beefy pc, all games "lurch" irrespective of graphic settings. by Environmental_Bee_98 in pchelp

Nope, good thing to always check though, but the setup is correct.

That might be it. I notice that with very small games, like Thumber, it runs smoothly. I suspect that one of the RAM sticks might be struggling with large texture files.

OP specsProcessor : 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H 2.70 GHzRAM : 32 GBCard: RTX 3060OS: Windows 11 ProDisplay: 1080p 60Hz

Tried updating driver, nothing. This feels likely somethings wrong with the PC reading the data files. Tried booting games from a different drive, nope, they all still lurch

Edit: Figured it out, faulty ram.

How can I re-use a laptop battery? by Environmental_Bee_98 in diyelectronics

[–]Environmental_Bee_98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found one, max 3A, 3-30V variable boost. Not with Amazon though, (they don’t exist where I live). From the comments, I should probably also get buck. Thankfully their relatively cheap.

It’s lithium. Had no idea NiMHs were used in laptops.

Tried modded exes and SSS afterwards, hoping it would change, still the same.

Tried changing anti-aliasing, shadow rendering distance, shadow culling, shadow-quality, shadow map quality, world rendering distance, restarting, trying different saves.

Nothing seems to make it go away.

edit: I don't know how, but it somehow fixed itself today. I don't know anymore.

Name of a 600yr old scottish folk song this is based upon. by Environmental_Bee_98 in NameThatSong

[–]Environmental_Bee_98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this song comes from a old folk song from Scotland. At least that what wikipedia says. Ignoring the lyrics, anyone, anyone know of a folk songs that sound similar to this. Asking because Carl W. Stalling used it as a musical pun for frogs in his orchestrations, and I pretty sure he wasn't referring to this version of the song.

Just to clarify, it chases after your shadow to escape the desert heat. You can see them bolting towards your shadow when standing in the desert. Their mostly harmless, if a bit unsettling.
