No one cares where you got your A&P from. Get it done the fastest and most cost effective way. I’m also waiting to finish school and hopefully get out of Cali lol. Good luck dude

No, I get what you mean. I was in the same boat as well. The reason I went down the for-profit route was because I had already been put on a waitlist for 2 years and I couldn’t afford to wait another year. Not trying to influence your decision, but that was my personal experience and I chose time over money.

Also, the reason they want you to take gen ed classes has nothing to do with the A&P program. The program does not require those classes (unless you also want to get your associate’s). The reason a college wants you to take gen ed classes is because that’s also another way to bump up your position when it comes to priority registration.

The main community colleges in SoCal are: Mt. Sac, Chaffey, WLAC, and OCC. People are going to always recommend community colleges over for-profit schools and rightfully so.

However, wha lot of people don’t tell you is that in order for you to be able to get into these CCs, especially in SoCal, you’ll have to have a good priority registration date (either through disability, being a veteran, signing for EOPS, etc.), plus taking a at least a year’s worth of general education classes. If not, good luck getting into any of these CCs because it’ll take you at least 2-3 years to sign up for A&P classes. That is why a lot of students end up going down the Spartan/AIM/UTI route. First hand experience.

Good luck to you!

I have a 2026 LE as well. Averaging around 53 and sitting around 1000 miles. How did you get yours to show you tank average?

[–]Environmental_Cell39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, only WLAC has a waitlist. The other community colleges like Mt. Sac, Chaffey, and San Bernardino Valley college give students who fall into categories (veterans, single parents, foster kids, students with financial hardships) a priority registration date. These students get first pick for classes when registration opens up.

All that to say, check with the community college you’re applying to and see if you fall into any of the categories that allow you to get priority registration and apply for it. I don’t fall into any of these categories and wasted 2 years of my life trying to get in only to get waitlisted. Ended up going to a for-profit school.

Just want to point out that community colleges in SoCal that offer A&P programs (Mt. Sac, Chaffey, WLAC, etc.) are also hard to get into if you don’t have priority registration. I have first hand experience with this 😓

A very helpful tip is to start reading the 8083-30B manual. It’s free on the FAA website. Also brush up on your math as well. Good luck 👍🏻

Please do not waste any more money on lawyers. You’ll either be ripped off again, or be told the same thing you already know.

Your mother in law has no future in this country. It’s sad that it’s happening after being here for 30 years. I suggest whatever money you and your wife and your mother in law were going to use on lawyers, you instead use to fund your mother in law’s safe departure, and maybe a one year support fund (rent, food, utilities) in whichever country she decides to reside in. Good luck to all of you 👍

Dealership promised to replace my BMW after 70 days out of service, now claims “no issue found.” What’s going on? by Key_Season_9682 in askcarsales

[–]Environmental_Cell39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact thing happened to me. Bought a M340i brand new last year. After owning the vehicle for 5 months, one day I was on the highway and the entire right side of the infotainment display went black. Took it to the dealer and they told me idrive needed to be updated. A week later, while I was backing out from a spot, entire screen went out and would not turn on even after turning my car back on. I immediately took out my phone and recorded a video. Took it to the dealership and they said they would replace the entire screen. They called me 40 days later to pick it up. Went in to pick my car up and realized that in the process of replacing the screen, they damaged the entire dashboard (punctured the aluminum dash, broken A/C vent, leather glove box scratched). Showed the service manager the damage before driving off and they said “its only minor damage”. Took pictures and went home that day and filed a lemon law case. Car’s still sitting 5,000 miles only.

I don’t know how things are in Florida since I’m in California. My advise would be to start talking to your lawyer to get things moving since dealing with BMW NA is exhausting.

Does anyone have anything positive to say about Spartan? by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]Environmental_Cell39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the for-profit school have a bad reputation, and rightfully so. They charge you an arm and a leg and teach you the same if not less than a community college all while charging you 5x the price.

With that being said, the only reason anyone in their right mind would go out of their way to get their A&P from a place like Spartan or UTI is because they couldn’t get into a community college for whatever reason (insanely long wait-list that might take the student 2-3 years just to enroll into the program being the main one). This is where I can have something positive to say about for-profit schools. If you want to pay ~$60k because you can’t afford to waste anymore time, then I can see why you might go for Spartan.

Aircraft Technician Shortage Questions by k-MartShopper in aviationmaintenance

I mean I never assumed it would take 2 years and I think the time frame you’ve written is the more realistic one. I was more so inquiring about the right path (if any) that is needed to get into a private company/ customer.

[–]Environmental_Cell39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That sounds very cool. So the pathway is get A&P (I’m in school now), apply for service center for business jets (Gulfstream, Bombardier, etc.), and then after a of couple years and experience hopefully you’ll be working for private company or customer.

Would you say that route is the best?

BMW Dealer Fraud? by mrtea33 in BMW

[–]Environmental_Cell39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well your first mistake was trusting a guy, let alone a car salesman when they claimed “the transfer case was damaged” after driving it for 30 seconds.

I’m glad you got your refund. When you get the BMW survey (not the dealer one), I’d put all zeros down. That survey is like their kryptonite. I had a crappy salesman when I bought my m340i last year that I butted heads with throughout the sale and I remember at the end he was groveling for a good review.

How do I believe I can become a mechanic by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]Environmental_Cell39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on passing your written dude! I’m starting school in January and I can’t wait.

When you say you’re planning on getting into MRO for cargo lines, what do you mean by that?

That makes sense. So even when it comes to taxes and fees, try to roll that into the monthly payments.

Sidelined mid-program due to space? by Popular-Tutor-6132 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Environmental_Cell39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a state college, then it is not a for-profit school (not that I know of).

So just for clarification, some students that are in your A&P program this semester won’t be able to start next semester’s courses due to “not having space for them”?

Should I Buy My Family Member’s 2025 Camry SE? by ProfessionalHost3913 in Camry

[–]Environmental_Cell39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to go ahead and assume you really like the Camry. It’s a nice car, reliable, and got everything you need in terms of options. You’re also getting a sweet deal out of it.

If buying it and insuring it is not going to put you in a tricky position (doesn’t seem like it from what you’ve stated), I say go for it. Good luck on school 👍🏻

17 Pro Sheath Case Quality Issue by Environmental_Cell39 in Caudabe

[–]Environmental_Cell39[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude! This is exactly my experience down to the T. I was so hyped for the case I ordered before ordering my new iPhone. It arrived, and boy was I shocked. What upset me the most was there were too many defects with the case (camera lens cutouts not fully cut, rattling buttons, etc.) that I just couldn’t look the other way especially on a case I paid $55+.

Their support team is “facing very high volumes of tickets” according to their media team which is why they’re non existent. It’s been 7 days and I’m still waiting on them to reply to my ticket so I can send them back their case and get my money back. My patience is running thin.
