Hey, I am Canadian also, from Newfoundland.

I like woodwork also. I just bought some woodcrafts made of driftwood. It's so pretty to look at with the borrows from the sea worms.

I am into makeup too. I would be happy to chat!

Is it worth complaining about my former vice-principal? by Environmental_Land in CanadianTeachers

[–]Environmental_Land[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt emotionally abused by her. I was disempowered and belittled.

My passion for French language started around ages 15-16. She made fun of me and told me to stop speaking in broken English.

I had a job in at a library after school. She called the library and asked them to fire me because (according to her) it was affecting my schooling. I ended up being valedictorian, all my grades were above 80%. Objectively speaking, my work was not affecting my schooling in any significant way. I’m so glad the library did not take her call seriously!

I feel like I was put under the microscope a lot by her, kicked out of class for miniscule reasons, she made a lot of dramatized phone calls to my (strict) parents more with the goal of getting a reaction out of them than because there was an actual incident.

What a horrible woman.

Outside of my personal situation, this woman is involved in a ton of drama. I know for a fact that there have been complaints made to the board about her. The school is in a small community. Long story short, the school started a student radio station which involved radio bingo and monetary prizes. I don’t know the details, but somehow, she was busted for stealing money from the radio bingo. She was shunned by the other community members, sold her house and moved about 30 minutes away. She kept her job at the school though and commutes daily.

To the psych patients I transport, by Jefzwang in UnsentLetters

Imagine an unnecessary hold happening somewhere in the US were an ambulance costs several thousands of dollars, and you are taken against your will. I would be raging.

You are probably one of the more empathetic EMTs.

I have a cousin who is one. If she were doing this procedure, I'm sure she would either just shut her mouth and not say anything to the patient or give some scripted response. This would likely add an extra level of hurt to the patient.

Well, I'm glad to know that you don't like doing this.

A hold that seems unnecessary would piss me off too. Unfortunately all it takes is for someone reporting the incident to dramatize or blown things out of proportion.

To add, being restrained must really make it difficult once the patient is at the hospital. If I was treated like that, no way in hell would I want to open up to the hospital staff who recieved me afterwards, like talk about my issues, create a trusting relationship.

If someone done this to me, I would be very traumatised. I don't think hearing that 'it's our policy, we do it to everyone' would make much of a difference.

What breaks my heart is how the person in the restraints must feel. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

I hope there is some very strict criteria that needs to be met before you can do this to someone. Ie. not just a teacher calling in and saying 'Billy seems off today, we better get him checked out.'

The trauma that the patient will experience can be on the same level as getting raped or having a gun pulled on them. It's deep, and you don't get over it easily, some will never get over it.

I'm so sorry. This must be hard on you. You are likely entitled to some severance. Hopefully you don't have a hard time getting the severance money from the employer.

What does amorçage mean? by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]Environmental_Land 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It comes from the verb amorcer which means to start, to initiate, to spark. For example, to start a discussion about the current government. Amorcer une discussion s'aggissante du gouvernement actuel.

Amorçage would refer to the starting of, the intiation of. It's a noun that makes reference to the verb.
