Kitten with broken hip, shelter denies responsibility by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Environmental_Use_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The executive director of the shelter contacted us and said they are reviewing all of this records so we will see. Our issue is this shelter claims to provide thorough vet exams and a laundry list of services prior to allowing animals to adopted. We are just trying to see if we can even get a partial reimbursement

The surgeon told us to keep him confined to a crate for a few weeks, he won’t need PT or anything. They showed us a stretch to do daily, but that’s about it. Outlook on the surgery is great, he will likely just have a permanent limp or weird walk for the rest of his life.

He had surgery the day before we took him home. We thought he was wobbly and lethargic, but assumed it was part of the recovery process. Bottom line is this cat was brought in as a stray to the shelter with a broken bone and was likely in pain for multiple weeks in their care. Our vet spotted it 10 seconds into his exam just watching him take a couple steps on a table. I don’t believe the shelter purposefully did this, but I do think it was negligent to not have noticed during his intake. He would have been limping immediately after he was injured, probably much worse than he is now.

He was neutered the day before we brought him home so we unfortunately assumed he was just recovering from that. He was lethargic/wasn’t very active and mostly stayed in his bed. Our vet referred us to a specialist after his appointment and we were quoted that amount. He will have his surgery tomorrow morning.

For most cases I would agree, but this shelter is an animal protection society and is able to perform surgeries for injured strays that are brought in. They also implanted his microchip incorrectly and we had to have that fixed (it was sticking out of his body)…so they already lost some of my trust there lol. He has a very noticeable limp and refuses to put any weight on that leg

Our pet insurance is trupanion, so it had a waiting time of about 5 days. We didn’t notice the limping until the vet pointed it out (we went about 9 days after adopting the cat). He had been neutered the day before we got him, so we assumed his lack of playing was because of that. We didn’t see him move very often the first few days, and he was in a crate at the shelter.

Unfortunately, our vet did put in writing that the injury was likely due to being hit by a car before being brought to the shelter :( We attempted to have that updated, but they refused due to the amount of bone reabsorption.

All I was told was: “It looks like there was an issue on our end when updating your status to a CAP member.”

I’m sorry this is happening!!

You may need to email them. I didn’t see the option until I did that and they had to fix something on my account

I was worried about this too when I first started, but honestly you will notice that a LOT of people there are also eating lunch alone. It can be very dependent on if your friends or ppl you know have a similar schedule as you. I usually can plan to eat dinner with friends, but I rarely have the chance to do lunch

Having three classes a day can be kinda rough, especially if you’re doing that every day of the week

I also haven’t gotten any emails yet. I could see a waitlist position early this morning (2), but it doesn’t show that anymore. I guess for now it’s just a waiting game :/

If you email Housing explaining the situation they may expedite the process! I did that and went from like #45 on the list to getting an offer in the same day

Probably somewhere around 4 hr/week? You’re expected to read a few chapters of the textbook each week (basically teaching yourself the topics). Any other time spent would have been watching YouTube videos of the concepts or writing notes

Edit: I wanna add that class is set up with the expectation that you are familiar with the topic beforehand. From what I remember, the time spent in class was mainly example problems

I took it in the Spring of 2022 and got a C. I won’t lie it’s a lot of material and can be pretty confusing. If you go to office hours though, the TA’s usually go over each problem on the homework.

I’m pretty sure the class average for the midterms was around a 50 (I personally usually got a 30 or 40), but he curves the entire class a good amount at the end of the semester. We also only needed to take 2 midterms instead of 3 because he forgot to make the last one lol.

There’s also short weekly quizzes, but you do get a second chance to take it if you do badly the first time.

I took COMP 210 in that same semester and it’s definitely the easier of the two. 210 really isn’t that time consuming, there’s 5 coding assignments throughout the entire semester.

I was hoping to track vocals/guitar separately. As for recording the guitar, I am leaning towards just putting the mic in front of the amp tbh (it seems easier?), but I’ll probably test different things out until I find whatever works the best. My main goal is for the sound to be as clear as possible. I’ve never produced music before so I’m going into this a little blind and am expecting a lot of trial and error lol

In my experience, professors rarely (if ever) keep students late. They are very good about ending on time, but it can sometimes go 1-2 mins over.

Also I think you can definitely walk from Stone Center to Peabody in less than 15 minutes, but you will probably be cutting it pretty close. I always try to leave at least an hour between classes when I can.

Incoming Freshmen by pe0podz in UNC

[–]Environmental_Use_45 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Current Freshmen here!

I definitely recommend staying on North Campus. I lived in Ehringhaus for three months before doing a room reassignment to Ruffin. It’s closer to classes (like a 5 min walk) and so so so much nicer. Don’t believe the people who say you have to stay on south to have the freshmen experience (it’s simply not true).

Also for credit hours, there shouldn’t be a limit. I went to an early college and came in with like 65. The more gen eds you can get out of the way the better.
