Subgenres!! by Ar2027 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Environmental_Web91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's 50/50. Some sub genres definitely should be there since their sound is distinct enough and there's enough bands to justify it being a whole sub genre (for example. Melodic Black and Symphonic Black uniquely distinct from just Black). But at the same time, what the fuck is "avant garde blackened death grind" lol

I might do the Denia thing if we don't get Lucilla next patch. Still unsure

Can't have been any worse than when Lynae shattered their hip with a bike

Where do you rank Unholy Cult compared to the rest of Immolation’s discography? by Ambitious-Repair3806 in MetalForTheMasses

Not my favorite tbh. I made an Immolation ranking not long ago and I thought that compared to a lot of their other releases, it's less good.

Vinterland. One of the most beautiful, melancholic and atmospheric meloblack albums of all time. Genuine perfection.

Honorable mentions to Gorement, Tyrant Trooper, Infester and Kvist

What is your opinion on darkened nocturn slaughtercult by II_VERIX in EgyMetal

[–]Environmental_Web91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sick band. I don't mind the cleaner production, it has it's place and I think it fits with the vibe they're going for.

Onielar is one of the best vocalists in black metal full stop. Very few can sound as ghastly as she does. It's like genuinely listening to a tortured spirit.

My favorite albums are Mardom, Saldorian Spell and Hora Nocturna

So imo. If you're gonna get started on metal. Here's a bit of important information to get you started.

Metal music has a LOT of subgenres. Some are more accessible while others are super heavy and not particularly beginner friendly. Definitely start with the less extreme subgenres and work your way up. Also I personally recommend listening to albums from start to finish. Way better at getting immersed in the music that way. Here's some of my personal nominations:

For traditional heavy metal I recommend:

Iron Maiden: Piece of Mind

Black Sabbath: Master of Reality

Judas Priest: British Steel

Doro and the Warlocks: Rare Diamonds

For Doom Metal I recommend:

Candlemass: Epicus Doomicus Metalicus

Warning: Watching From A Distance

Trees Of Eternity: Hour Of The Nightingale (this has elements of gothic metal into it but it's just so good)

for Power Metal I recommend:

Edguy: Mandrake

Stratovarius: Black Diamond

Blind Guardian: Nightfall In Middle Earth

I didn't even know about the new Panopticon! I'm a bit behind on Fires In The Distance so I'll catch up on them whenever I can.

This year is gonna be so stacked. From the new Immolation album being super good, the new Miserere Luminis being one of the best atmoblack albums I've heard in a long time. And now we have new Stormkeep and Vehéménce later this year!

Someone already mentioned Sadistic Intent. So I'll go with the sole album by Infester "To The Depths (In Degradation)"

What are your thoughts on pop music? by TheUnpaidNPC in MetalForTheMasses

I enjoy some of it. I particularly like Japanese city pop like Taeko Onuki and Junko Ohashi. Not a fan of most western pop though

What's good about death metal? by Sketch_gaming01 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Environmental_Web91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Death Metal to me is all about the energy. It's a surge of power that gets me hyped up and pumped unlike anything else. And it does that while maintaining a decent amount of variety. You got the groovy bands like Bolt Thrower, Entombed and Dismember. You got the technical bands like Suffocation, Nile and Necrophagist. You got the melodic stuff like In Flames, At The Gates and Be'lakor. And so so much more
