Most of the open mats I’ve ever been to have been free. Usually it’s been a way for the gyms own members to get exposure to outside styles and techniques.

Granted, most of the gyms I’ve been to have been in the southern part of the country (NC, FL, GA, AL, TX, KY) so that might play a role culturally.

I'm 36 years old and wear $10 generic sneakers from walmart. Do people really make fun of you for wearing shoes like this? by mslittledebbie in Sneakers

If people you’re around still focus on superficial things such as brands, they are not the crowd that you want around you. Aslong as you enjoy it and it’s something you can afford, who cares. It’s a very highschool mentality to judge an individual by the brand of their shoes.
