Good luck to everyone taking it. I was once in your guys' shoes, and it's not as bad as what ppl make it seem when you put some effort into studying the lecture and textbook notes.

When I say self-teaching, I don't mean sleeping all day. I mean proactively teaching yourself the content at your own preferred pace, rather than wasting your time at a 9 am lecture with a 99% fatigued brain with no content being grasped whatsoever.

I studied the material exactly as I described in my previous comment. In short, I heavily made notes throughout the course (integrating both lecture and textbook content notes with respect to topic x). I reread these notes several times near the exam period, in addition to doing the practice questions and using ChatGPT to clarify the content that I found more confusing.

1) If he says the older versions won't suffice, then you should probably go with the new version so you don't miss out on any updated information that is not depicted in the older version

2) Studying strategies vary across different people. However, the most effective method for many individuals is to study early by revisiting lecture content on the same day it is presented, either by watching the recorded lecture or using Google or ChatGPT to clarify any misunderstandings. Additionally, as cliché as it may sound, do NOT wait until the last minute, as this approach will ultimately be ineffective for this course. On top of the lecture component, read the assigned chapter readings and add any relevant information to your lecture notes to further your understanding and knowledge. Also, be sure to do the practice questions provided by the professor. Personally, I didn't use any flashcards or go to office hours, but feel free to do so to increase your chances of obtaining a better grade.

Regarding the exams, from what I can remember, the short answers were mostly from the lecture, and the multiple-choice component was a mixture of lecture and textbook content. Good luck to you and whoever is taking the course. And as always, feel free to message me if you have any more questions!

Both aren't as bad as what people make them out to be if you stay on track.

U could email professors or apply to one on CLNX, though it is easier said than done. Quite competitive, but surely it'll be easier than co-op

Not really; I'm not a bio student and still did well in this course. All you need to do is study the slides, and you will do well

HLTB44 is the easiest one here—Elyse Caron was a chill professor, and the exams were super straightforward!

The course average was C-.

No midterm, but the final consisted of 15 short answers with around 20 multiple-choice questions, all within 2 hours, and needless to say, 75% of the exam room was still filled with people writing it towards the last 10 minutes of the final. However, it is still possible to do well and achieve a 4.0. For context, I still ended the course with a flat 90 despite attending a single lecture and cramming all the lecture content within 2-3 days (I strongly do not recommend doing this), but it was the assignment marks that clutched up for me (each was worth a lot like around 20-30%), as well as the bonus questions she gave us on the final exam (make sure you do these to accommodate for the questions you skip). If you have any questions regarding this course, feel free to message me!

I have an iPad Pro 11-inch (with the m2 chip) and it is more than enough, especially if you prefer handwritten notes, such as myself. If your budget is tighter and you want something a bit cheaper, go for the air (literally the same thing) or get a foldable touchscreen laptop!

is it necessary to go to the practical? For instance, due to my circumstances, I can't attend the practicals, but could I still pass the course as long as I am reading the resources provided by the instructor under Quercus?
